Ramesh Bais, BJP chief whip in Lok Sabha, said there was strong resentment among Lok Sabha MPs over the Bill and his party leadership was engaged in placating MPs.
“At least seventy per cent of MPs are protesting against the women’s reservation Bill and the way the party supported the Bill despite marshals being used in Rajya Sabha. Top leaders of the party have assured that grievances of the MPs will be taken into account,” Bais told The Indian Express, adding that Murli Manohar Joshi and Yashwant Sinha had already held the first round of discussions.
Hukumdeo Narayan Yadav, senior leader and BJP MP from Madhubani in Bihar, declared he would defy any party whip in Lok Sabha and vote against the Bill.
A former Union Minister, Yadav told The Indian Express: “If they issue a whip (to vote in favour of the Bill), I will break it and vote against it. Let them end my membership, I am not bothered. I am a socialist and I cannot compromise on issues of social justice.”
He said he had asked the BJP leadership not to issue a whip in Lok Sabha and allow MPs to exercise their choice. He also slammed the use of marshals in Rajya Sabha to evict seven MPs who were opposed to the Bill.
Yadav said the use of marshals amounted to “martial law” and his party had been a “mute spectator”.
“History will not spare the BJP. The BJP was like Bhishmapitamah and Dronacharya in Mahabharata who remained mute spectators to the disrobing of Draupadi,” he said. Attacking the policy of his party to support the Bill, he said the BJP would “decline further” if it ignored the backward classes.
Yogi Adityanath, MP from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, too aired his protest, wondering why the party had shown such eagerness to back the women’s reservation Bill when there were more pressing matters on hand.
Madhusudan Yadav, a first-time BJP MP from Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh, too objected that the party leadership had not protested the use of marshals to evict MPs from Rajya Sabha.
“The allies and supporters of UPA are protesting against the Bill. They used the support of the Opposition to use marshals and bulldoze the Bill through Rajya Sabha. We will not tolerate the use of marshals in Lok Sabha,” Yadav told The Indian Express.

There is no doubt in it that BJP will ultimately gain in election due to their support to woman reservation bill .Details cannot be mentioned but realised by true thinker of BJP cadre. It needs some time to ponder over the issue and merely supporting or opposing for the sake of support or for opposition will serve no purpose. When they supported in Rajya sabha there a reason behind it.There is no change in any part of the bill , they why BJP members have suddenly changed. It means they did not apply mind in first case and nor they have applied mind for their next course of action in Loksabha. However I am of different view.Quota has not served any interest of SC ST or OBC during last 60 years of freedom and it cannot be imagined that woman quota will turn the table and bring about overwhelming change in Indian administration which is ailing from corruption, or give relief to Indian common men who are suffering from price rise or provide safety to Indians who are afraid of terror attack or Naxal attack or help Indian youth who are suffering from unemployment.
Is there any guarantee that the selected women in the parliment will perform any better than men.Is there any assurance that they will behave better than men. If one looks are likes of Indira , mayavati, jayalalitha, sonia, renuka choudri, jayanti natarajan, rabri devi etc, nothing gives us hope that they are here to change anything that is happening today. This resrvation bill is a real wastefull exercise. This only will become an extended family mater spilling in the public domain with no commensurate benefit to the tax payer's money. One can not forget the money that this lady renuka choudri splashed on telephone bills, hotel bills etc only to be reprimanded by The then Finance minister.
It has taken, as per one of the TV channels (probably govt mouthpiece) 14 long years, after the bill's inception. There must have been various reasons why it could not come through, except that now as Mrs Sonia Gandhi (the almighty of India) has taken it as a personal challenge, the first hurdle was crossed. This is to say the least the most pathetic situation, whichever way you look at it. Did any one consider as to why it took 14 long years and would the same factors (possibly justifying that time, the said reservation -- God knows which factors) still hold good? We divide the country on all counts, caste, religion and now gender basis. What is the point in having reserved seats, which any way would be contested only by the clones and controlled 'remotely' by others - whatever be the type of reservation. Improve the lot of the deserving (irrespective of caste, religion and gender) and the country would automatically prosper. Most of the women feel such reservation as a disgrace
every political party is exploiting the situation -some in the name of religion, some caste ,others group of castes, look into the history, yadavs were the most influential upper caste-now they are backward, thanks to politicians,REMOVE ALL SORTS OF RESERVATIONS AND WORK FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COUNTRY
Under the leadership of Congress,UPA is trying to divert the mind of public and sail smoothly thro' current session of Parliament without addressing the burning issues of PRICE-RISE,SECURITY,DEBACLES IN DEALING WITH PAK and so on.If a Govt is really working for the Nation and not only Party-interest AT ALL COSTS,then Congress which ruled the country for half a decade ,would have brought the living of SC,ST,OBC,Minorities,Women at a level that none of them need reservation and all Indians would have been at par in the progress.Awareness was needed to be created among these masses for removal of ignorance,Poverty and population rise(which is the biggest hurdle in the progress). In its stead Indian Politicians ate away the resources meant for AAM AADMI and throws on the bread of RESERVATION to different categories, treating them as street dogs, and foolish Indians enjoy this and get satisfied.
My frank opinion is any type of quota other than for alleviating poverty and improving the quality of life of poor people is a sort of fraud on the nation. B S GANESH
Why Reservation ? Sonia ,Mamata ,Mayavati ,Jayalalita ,Sushma swaraj are Indias leading politicians without any reservation.Presindent ,most influential politician of India are women .They will come up by their merit.
Psychologically and the past experiments arrive at 100%, that is the truth.
It should have been 50% reservation for women ,not 33% as now now they proposing.Even for this ,there is so much of opposition and reservation. What equality are these top leaders preaching then . Sonia says it is her husbands dream and many others also speak so much about it. Double standard.
It is not only the BJP but also many in the Congress Party is against the bill. It is only due to the insistance of Sonia Gandhi it could be moved in the RS.
By now SoniaGandhi has known and is assured by her boot-lickers that there will be some kind protests, agitations, yammering and blabbering which won't last longer and the anti-bill people will cool down and forget. This had always happened in India.Too susceptibles with very short-memories.India is nomore or say was never real Democracy under Congress rule. How a bill can get through which needs Constitutional Amendment withough 2/3 majority support is clear sign of despotic regime exercising colourful powers.
Women-Bill is not an innocent bill.In addition 33% reservation, women will get some more seats from the general category and OBC/SC/ST category also with an extra of 20-30%,total is nearly 60% above.one have to wonder how Sabha accepted such important Bill without knowing any detail.Similar confusion was created in Muslim resevation where it influenced muslim voters though the reservation is not in force. Now this Women-Bill influences all the women voters though it is very difficult to implement in reality.
WITH TIME MAN WANT TO PROGERSS. OBCS WERE IN HIGHER CASTE CATEGORY EARLIER, BUT AFTER SO MANY YEARS OF INDEPENDECE CONGERSS GOVT TOLD THEM BACKWARD. SIMILARLY, AFTER SO MANY YEARS,CONGRESS THINKS WOMEN NEED QUOTA. INSTEAD OF UPLIFTMENT FROM THE ROOT CONGRESS IS TRYING TO PLAY THE CASTE AND GENDER CARDS JUST TO GET VOTE, DESTROYING OUR COUNTRY. GOVERNMENT SHOULD ENSURE ADEQUATE EDUCATIONAL & ECONOMICAL SUPPORT AND SOCIAL JUSTICE TO ITS PEOPLE.AFTER THAT A MAN/WOMAN SHOULD GET WHAT HE/SHE DESERVES IRRESPECTIVE OF CASTE, GENDER AND RELIGION AND QUOTA SYSTEM ABOLISHES IT TOTALLY. I THINK CONGRESS WILL INTRODUCE MUSLIM QUOTA SOON. ALL THE QUOTA INTRODUCED BY CONGRESS ONLY REVEALS ITS FAILURE AS A RULING PARTY OF MAJORITY OF TIME TO UPLIFT THE SOCIETY FROM THE ROOT.
Yes, we knew it already. This is not a big issue. In a country of reservations, women are already covered in many types of quotas besides so many other privileged class. Basically such a bill was not needed at all. It is pure dirty politics by Congress. They wanted to shift our attention from the issue of rising price and security. They have arrived at some understanding with their partners BJP. It seems they will create similar scene for the passage of Ayodhya where congress wants to build a temple on the occupied land.It is in the DNA of Cngress to creat trouble and play on it. Shame on politicians. Shame on us who select insane human to decide our life. Shame on such an insensitive so called educated PM.Why are not they working to control price of basic food items and security of its citzen without bias?
It is clear that even the BJP is not in favour for reservation for women. they are forced to vote in favour of bill.It is because of the male dominent society.Govt. should have worked for concensus before bringing the bill in parliament. even congress MPs are not in favour by heart, they voted because of the fear from Mrs Gandhi.Though it is big step for empowering the women in the country taken by Mrs.Gandhi, she should be complimented for the same. But it would be much better if the concensous of the should have obtained. It is the same thing as the socialist are trying to abolish the caste system and the reformist are trying to empower the women. Not easy. it would take hundreds of year to change the mind set of conservative people of the country.
What is the point is trying to sell this bill which is opposed by most MPs and has many flaws. It may be better to try some alternative instead of wasting decades over this particular version. Demand for reservation for OBCs and minorities is not valid since it does not exist anyway. Given the rotation policy for the reserved seats and assuming say 5% of the sitting women MPS can retain their seats, the percentage of reservation should be brought down to 20% or mandate all parties to nominate 33% women in some meaningful way. If some version of this bill would have been passed when this was first mooted in 1996, we would have had many more women MPs by now. It seems prudent to adopt a more pragmatic approach based on long term goals.
You give these chaps guarantee that their seats in parliament will be protected, then you see all votes for the bill. Till then they will quote socialistic rule book, dalit card, backward classes benefit scheme and minority status report!
This bill has so many incompleted parts which is because of true communication gap , No Interest and some hidden intensions which will be more clear as time goes ahead.
All this concern about backward castes and minorities being excluded is just a lame excuse to ensure that women don't get representation. Personally, I feel the bill has certain deficiencies which merit guided and unbiased look such as the rotation concept and its impact, but surprisingly nobody is talking of the issues with it. The sole agenda of the anti-reservation lobby in to scuttle the move altogether. MPs questioning the use of marshals shd also question those who threw papers at the chairman of the house.
Unless the seven Rajya Sabha MPs not apologize to the Chairman, they must not be allowed even the gate of the parliament bldg. The Govt must act sternly in so far as the discipline goes. Indiscipline and the satyagraha are two different things.
This is not surprising - our MPs are the worst professionals in the country.Majority of them have looted a lot of wealth nd bullied common citizens - now why should they vote for a bill which takes away their jobs ....
A very interesting, but true picture of men, who still want to keep women as under dogs. Why they want to keep the women where they are now? Will they succeed? Will their own female family members support?Any how the die is cast. Please keep in mind, it is just the beginning of reservation on the gender base. The next in line may be reservation for those who are neither male nor female and are in between both.As a matter of fact, those individuals are really deserve reservation, because even God has not done justice to them. The Constitution of India, starts;"We the people" that includes all the citizens, by birth or naturalization. There is no word male or female or those who are neither male or female.I don't think this bill will have smooth sailing, even if whips are issued. Those who in favour or against are serving their personal interest and not national interest. Let us watch what happens next.In case this bill is enacted then few famous and favoured families will be benefit
No one is clear about the results expected out of the Women's reservation bill. It could be experimented for a period of 10 years to check out the benefits / disadvantages and then the constitution could be amended permanently. The Yadav trio is mainly worried that the women's reservation could bring down the muscle power in politics by 31% assuming 2% women will also use muscle power.
The picture clearly exposes the true picture in the stiumli of Member of Parliaments of various Political Parties . It seems that even at present there may be many hurdles in getting the Women reservation Bill Passed in the Lok Sabha if the voting is carried out on the voice of conscious . It seems that the Elected reprenstatives still have in mind in regard to the Male dominated society as with the approval of this Bill it will be golden chance of the Women's Empowerment .All Political Parties should make a concesuses to get the Women Reservation Bill through in the Lok Sabha with voice thumping majority rather then by voting .
Bunch of jokers in Indian parliament. God save India
The revelation of the BJP Chief Whip in LOKSABHA that 70% of his colleques are againt the Women's Reservation Bill could be true. We can expect only such a response from the Male dominated Indian Politics. Let Congress, BJP and the Leftist Parties go foward with the Bill. Soon our people will approve it. Once the people approves it the political Parties will have no choice, but embrace it. It may take a decade or two for us to get capable Women Parlmentarians. We had many undistinguished MP's in the past among them Goondas and even Dacoits. The bill if passed will certainly help empower our womenfolk who comprise 50% of our population. No nation can progress when half its population suffers from discrimination and deprived of advancement.
