New Delhi The list of BJP candidates for Delhi's seven parliamentary seats is expected to be declared on Thursday. A meeting of Central Election Committee of the party has been convened to discuss Delhi's fate.

The meeting, scheduled to take place at 3:00 pm on Thursday, will be chaired by party president Rajnath Singh and will also have other senior leaders including BJP's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani in attendance.

The party, however, is taking it slow in selecting the names of candidates even as hectic lobbying for Delhi seats has been on for over a month now. "In case we are not able to reach consensus on any seats we might even leave them out at present. We have plenty of time and will not make any decision in haste," said a senior party leader.

Former Chandni Chowk MP, Vijay Goel has been vying for the New Delhi seat. Despite Goel's new choice of seat not meeting with the senior leadership , Goel might still be able to get ticket from New Delhi, party sources informed. Other contenders for the New Delhi seat include Hema Malini and Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra.

Meanwhile, with Goel not keen on Chandni Chowk , MCD councilor Vijender Gupta is expected to get the Lok Sabha ticket from the constituency.

A close fight is on at the West Delhi front too, where veteran MLA Jagdish Mukhi is contending against late Sahib Singh Verma's son, Parvesh Verma and party general secretary R P Singh. BJP, however, is interested in fielding Verma from the south Delhi constituency, which has a predominant Gujjar population. Tughlaqabad MLA Ramesh Biduri has also been striving for the south Delhi seat. Party insiders say that with Verma keener on the West Delhi seat, Biduri might just land up with the seat.

The only seat on which a consensus seems to have emerged is the North West constituency, which has the highest number of voters. The BJP's election committee has decided that the ticket for the constituency which is a reserved seat will be given to a woman candidate. Former East Delhi MLA Meera Kanwaria is ahead of other women candidates in the race for this seat.

In East Delhi, Dr Harsh Vardhan, former cricket Chetan Chauhan and BL Sharma Prem are in the race. BJP had lost east Delhi assembly seats by over a one lakh margin during assembly election. Cricketer Kirti Azad is leading the race for the North East constituency.
