After Vajpayee, the BJP has suffered from lack of respectability. No party that has any real ambition in India should talk about anything other than progress for the whole of India. We're never going to build a country for the future based on ANY religion or religious set of idealogies. The fools who think Muslims are going to completely take over India should wonder why one set of Indians would ever want to take over another set of Indians - don't we already have enough challenges and problems trying to make a living in India?If we are to get beyond the 18th century mindset, we should think fresh and young, and be dynamic as a country. That is what the Congress represents and that is what India has voted for. Enough of all the other nonsense. Who cares if the BJP goes to the dogs and is forgotten forever. I care only about India and India isn't doing too badly right now. Go Manmohan Singh and co.!

BJP today is like a grown up teenager who has been brought up by the parents with a certain mindset. The child finds that the reality does not match the mindset. What should the child do? there are two options:1. Leave the parents' framework as obsolete and start thinking afresh. This will lead to a lot of uncertainty and problems till a fresh framework stabilises.2. Close the mind and accept the mindset as it is. This is a surer path, more comfortable, but is likely to lead the child to obsolescence and a dead end.It is a dilemma that BJP has to resolve. It is a good sign that there is a churning happening in BJP. It would be interesting to watch for the outcome. This will decide whether it will just survive or thrive in the long run.

BJP suffers because of the confusion around what it represents and what RSS represents. RSS mainly acts as a cadre that represents Hindus.. not "Hindutva". RSS has never even defined who is a Hindu (I believe rightly so). That creates identity confusion (see Kovaithambi's response). RSS can afford to keep that confusion and may be benefit from the lack of clarity but BJP cannot. Also, as a national party, it cannot and should not limit itself to Hindus. Any party aspiring to become a ruling party must represent all sectors of the society.RSS needs to act as a pressure group and not decide the agenda for BJP. They also need to note that a national party like BJP has to have some wiggle room to attract votes from all sectors (including Muslims/christians). Its not enough to say - we will bring uniform civil code (by the way...does BJP manifesto really say that?) - BJP also needs to state how they are going to make difference in each section of society

Hindutwa is a way of praying to God and having cooperation and making all happy etc. Is it not foolish to leave Hindutwa in a majority Hindu country and adopt Islam or Christianisty?B SGANESH, BANGALORE

BJP has two types of members: those with RSS background and those without it. The latter want it to become a secular rightist party and if this thinking prevails, it will lose RSS support and it will wither away like Rajaji's Swatantra Party. In case it remains a Hindutva party, it will be like Jan Sangh of old days, having only some nuisance value.

Mohhamedeans are responsible for all the miseries of world since foundation. Christians and Mohamedeans cannot exist in peace. In peaceful country like India, they indulge in religious riots with Hindus. Why did Hindus not have riots with Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs, Parsees, Jews, Zoroastrians etc? Because the root of problem in world is these two only. The world has never had peace ever since these two came. Hinduism is a way of life since time immemorial.Invaders from around the world tried to destroy it but were unknowingly immersed in its beauty.Hinduism is not a religion as no Vedas or upanishad has that word.Its use for the people of this great sub-continent who totally differ from the areas surround it.We should be proud of this heritage as we had given this world the most missionaries of peace where other great nations had failed like Gautam,Mahavira,moinuddin chisti,sai baba,sant dyanehwar,bharti etc etc.Our strength is not the nuclear arsenal we posses but our unity.

We Hindus are mostly peace loving people back by our democratic Dharma which is mostly loved all over the world. The BJP messed up by creating a divide, and by mixing religion and politics.BJP is the political wing of rss,vhp,bajrang dal etc., and these organisations are equally unpopular as al-qaida.BJP leaders cannot represent us Hindus in general or our country, because we do not like such kranky old farts whose jelly fish like lies were painting black the name and fame of our Dharma all around the world.Because of these rowdy likes we Hindu too were being considered as fanatics or facists.We Hindus do not need any permission from these sorts to show our love toward our Hindu Dharma or toward our country and nor do we need to dress up in khaki nickers to show our sympathy for Hitler.

Has BJP anything else to offer except Hindutva - a narrow, communal hate mongering concept not to be confused with the pristine ideology of the Vedas, coming down through the ages to the present day Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Swami Vivekananda and Ramana Maharshi?As a proud Hindu, I do not see in Hindutva (or BJP)any seeds of betterment for the individual or the society at large.

The day some of the wise and moderate members of the Babri Masjid Action council okay the construction of the Ram Temple for the sake of harmony or a mass movement that includes all the religious and secular people come out with a suggestion to build a government hospital as a permanent solution, the BJP will become extinct. Since India is moving forward with progressive mind and the young generations are becoming more democrat and secular, such ideas cannot be called an utopian in the 21st century. So, if the BJP wants to stand as an alternative to the Congress, it cannot alienate any communities and their basic problems in principle. Our constitution guarantees us fundamental rights. At the same time, it prescribes our fundamental duties also.To uphold the constitution is one of our fundamental duties. Most non-brahmins in India now clearly understand that BJP and RSS work for the promotion, protection of Bhramins and not the Hindus at large or the values of Hindusim. I have seen most Brahmins rather prefer a muslim than a Hindu non-brahmin. If BJP's new generation leaders completely shun the 'brahministic' agenda and articulate a right of center progressive conservative position, BJP can sweep to power on its own. Most Indians are fed up with Congress's pro-christian and pro-muslim agenda, but support it only because of the fear that the brahmins in BJP-RSS will treat them worse than the COngress.

The BJP is paying the price for constant dithtering in its core ideology of Hindutva which has seen its credibility eroded to a large extent amongst its followers. Moreover, the BJP's economic policies are no different from the Congress and infact it prescribes an extreme version of neo-liberal policies which have failed thorought the Globe as seen from the current global economic crisis. It started from Gandhian socialism opposing neo-liberal policies and finally embracing it with full affection and love as seen during its reign from 1998 to 2004 when various policy initiatives implemented by it amply demonstarted the tilt towards the Big Business Houses and Multi Nationals. The BJP is caught in a bind today as dividends from Hindutva is diminishing and its geographical expansion is limited. The fact that it is in power in many States is not going to help it in 2014.

BJP is just trying to save Hinduism as most of the Hindus are being converted either to Christianity or Islam.BJP doesnt even get Hindu votes now coz congress has further divided us based on caste.Congress thus playing minoirty appeasing have managed to get more votes.Hindus have lost identity in there own nation.If hindusim persihes , that would be end of humanity on this earth.

Mr.Nambiar, I beg to differr from your view . I am a Christian. If you understand the real gospel of Christ, and the love of Jesus Christ, then you wont say that the operandi of christianity is to gain intellectual, physical, social and political control of mankind. Dear Sir: I have been following Indian election trends since 1985 from USA. Till 1992, christians muslims and hindus voted for congress. When Rajiv Gandhi opened Babar Masjid in Ayodhya, Muslims got angry and theystopped voting for Congress and voted for Mulayam. Subsequently BJP demolished Baber Masjid and then Mulayam cashed Muslim votes. Then in Gujrath before Godhra Muslims were making sussessful attempts in seducing and marrying hindu girls. This generated uncontrolled anger among hindus against muslims. With Godhra event hindus wanted to check muslims of their evil acts on hindu girls and killed muslims which muslims thought as acts of BJP. There after christians were targed by hindus for converting hindus into christianity with foreign money and BJP then enacted anti-bill in Rajasthan for which BJP lost Rajasthan with christian money.
