Bangalore, October 27: The BJP staked claim to form a Government in Karnataka after its former coalition partner JD-S did a somersault, pledging its support to the saffron party-led regime.

A BJP delegation that comprised former Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, state unit party president D V Sadanada Gowda and senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu called on Governor Rameshwar Thakur this afternoon and submitted a letter staking claim to form the government.

The delegation pleaded with the Governor to send a report to President Pratibha Patil to revoke President's rule to facilitate formation of a stable government with majority support.

BJP sought revival of the state Assembly which has been kept under suspended animation following the collapse of the JD(S)-BJP coalition ministry headed by H D Kumaraswamy. The BJP had then withdrawn support after the JDS failed to honour the power sharing pact.

Yediyurappa told the Governor that he was willing to prove his majority on the floor of the House if he (Governor) desires within a reasonable time.

Strengthening the BJP's claims for government formation, former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy submitted a letter to the Governor extending support to the saffron party.

Kumaraswamy and state unit JDS president Merajuddin Patel submitted another letter addressed to the President requesting that Yediyurappa be given an opportunity to form the government.

"As the leader of the JDS Legislature party, I have requested the Governor to invite Yediyurappa to form the government," Kumaraswamy said and declared that all the 58 MLAs of his party backed the decision.
