Mumbai, January 16: The BJP in Maharashtra is organizing a grand felicitation for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on January 20.

However, the party has left out its alliance partner Shiv Sena as no invitation has been sent to Sena leader Bal Thackeray or to its executive president Uddhav Thackeray.

BJP spokesman Madhav Bhandari when contacted confirmed that the party had not sent any invitation to Shiv Sena.

"We have not invited Shiv Sena because this is a party function and not an NDA function", he added.

The BJP is keen to cash in on the Modi wave that swept the assembly elections of Gujarat. The party expects a turnout of more than two lakh people for the function at Shivaji Park here and has readied its cadres for the big day.

The Mumbai BJP chief Prakash Mehta said preparations for the function are going on full swing.

This will be the second such felicitation the state BJP has organised for Modi. In 2003 also, after the Modi-led BJP made a clean sweep in 2002 polls, it had organised a grand felicitation.
