Jind, March 16 Not wanting to be left out after the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance and United National Progress Alliance’s initiatives for farmers, the Bharatiya Janata Party today announced that farmers will be ensured loan at the interest of 4 per cent if the party is voted to power in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The party also demanded a special session to discuss the problems being faced by farmers.

Stating this while addressing a Vijay Sankalp Rally organised by the state BJP at HUDA Ground here today, national party president Raj Nath Singh said no interest will be charged from the farmers for one year and assured income to farmers will also be made applicable through the bima yojna, under which 75 per cent premium will be paid by the Centre and 25 per cent by the farmers.

While seeking a 15-day special session for the discussion of farmers’ problems, he said a provision should be made for a budget for farmers, on the line of the Railway Budget.

Holding the Congress responsible for the “anarchy among farmers that has led to a series of suicides”, he said the assured income will be decided on basis of the price of the production for the past seven years, including the value of corps affected by natural calamities.

Seeking waiver of all types of loans of all farmers, he said the Centre should fulfill promises of the loan waiver scheme within three months, while ridiculing the Congress in the same breath for remembering farmers when its term is ending.

Lashing out at the Congress for failing to bring the country at par with developed countries despite remaining in power for 50 years, Singh said farmers had suffered badly during Congress rule only because of wrong policies and lack of vision.

He claimed it was the Vajpayee-led government which lowered interest on loan to farmers from 18 per cent to 8.5 per cent, besides taking several measures for the improvement of infrastructure in villages to bring them at par with cities.

Projecting Lal Krishna Advani as the future prime minister of the country, he said the BJP will provide good governance and a transparent government at the Centre under his leadership as he was instrumental in the all-round development of the country during NDA’s rule.

The former deputy prime minister and leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Lal Krishna Advani was also not far behind in encashing upon the vote bank of soldiers and said the countdown for the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre has started from today. He said it will pay a heavy price in the forthcoming elections as people are fed up with the way prices of essential commodities have increased manifold.

Accusing the Congress of playing with the sentiments of the people, he said Ram Setu will not be allowed to be dismantled at any cost. He also held the UPA responsible for the delay in implementation of the High Court and Supreme Court’s decision regarding the death penalty of Parliament attack mastermind Afzal Guru.
