New Delhi, March 7: Amid renewed efforts by Shiv Sena to revive its Mumbai for Marathi plank, the BJP on Friday sought to subtly remind its ally that it was against ‘regionalism’ in any form.

BJP President Rajnath Singh said the party condemns attempts by some quarters to promote regionalism and asserted that it will “neither recognise regionalism nor will it allow it to flourish”.

Without naming Shiv Sena or Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Singh said some parties are indulging in the politics of religion, sect and casteism to “gain new grounds and to save their existence”.

“But our politics is for society and ideology,” he said addressing a womens’ conference in New Delhi organised by the party’s young wing.

At the same venue, the party’s Prime Ministerial face L K Advani later spoke about erstwhile Jan Sangh’s agitation in the 1950s against the “two constitutions, two prime ministers and two flags” concept in Jammu and Kashmir.

Both Advani and Singh stressed that the BJP and its previous avatar Jan Sangh had worked for the unity and integrity of India.

The comments came close on the heels of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s remarks on Biharis, which was seen as an attempt to recapture his party’s Marathi sons-of-the-soil plank being hijacked by MNS leader Raj Thackeray.

Dividing the country on communal and ethnic lines is a dangerous trend by P.P. TALWAR on 08 Mar 2008

It is typical of BJP, a communal party to gain political mileage by spreading communalism, BJP's offshoot Jan Sanh had done maximum damage to the country by polluting the country's secular character, resulting into communal riots in the country, particulary in Gujarat and elsewhere. Whereas, Bal Thackray and Raj Thackaray by spreding hatred, enemity and ill -will amongst communities and dividing the country on ethnic, community and regional basis are doing great disservice to the country, LK Advani and Rajnath singh are equally to be blamed for spreading communalism in carrying out demolition of Babri Masjid.

BJP is right. They might not support regionalism, but will always whole-heartedly support Religionism. They dont want regionalism because Brahmanism will cease to exist

BJP and Regionalism by V V S Prasad on 07 Mar 2008

How thses jokers are supporting Telangana? In Maharastra atleast Mr Raj thakery is fighting against Non Maharastrians. In AP same language people are fighting against their people.BJP is the most opportunist party. They promise the things which surely they know they cannot give. They change policies for the sake of Power. They dumped temples and Hindutva and Afvani hugged Islam for appeasing Muslims. He is most power hungry and ineffective leader. The good leaders are suppressed in BJP.

I agree by g kapuria on 08 Mar 2008

BJP is only slightly better than Congress. I dislike Rajnath Singh. At least Advani spoke against Raj Thackeray.

Regionalism by ajay chipiri on 07 Mar 2008

interesting comments from BJP topbrass. Then how come you are supporting Telangana. May be just to get a political space in andhra Pradesh by hook or crook. I am sure your party will be buried for ever in Andhra Pradesh.
