Mumbai Election affadavits filed by prominent corporators in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) show that while their wealth has doubled and even tripled in some cases, there are some who do not even have a car or a house.

Rahul Shewale, Shiv Sena corporator from Trombay in Mankhurd and standing committee chairman for the past two years, has declared that he did not have a car or even a house in his name or in the name of his family members. With over 30 tolas of gold and cash of over Rs 1.52 lakh, Shewale’s total assets are worth Rs 16.87 lakh.

NCP leader and three-time corporator from Wadala, Niyaz Vanu, has shown a massive three-fold jump in his assets from Rs 99.8 lakh to Rs 4.36 crore — his most valued possession being his Rs 90-lakh flat in Wadala.

At the same time, Shiv Sena leader in the BMC and corporator from Goregaon, Sunil Prabhu, has seen his wealth double from Rs 1.35 crore as per his 2007 affidavit to Rs 2.66 crore in 2012. He possesses a three-and-a-half acre land in Konkan worth Rs 40 lakh, three flats and one commercial property in Goregaon east.

Mayor Shraddha Jadhav, on the other hand, has seen only a marginal increase in her wealth from a total of Rs 6.29 crore of assets declared in 2007 to Rs 6.31 crore. She has three flats in Parel, Nerul and Sewri.

However, the previous mayor, Shubha Raul, has seen a nearly three-fold jump in assets from Rs 1.21 crore in 2007 to Rs 3.39 crore. While she is a corporator from Dahisar and owns a flat there, she now stays in Dadar, where she has bought a flat.

Congress corporator and nephew of MP Gurudas Kamat, Sameer Desai, has also seen

a considerable jump in overall assets from Rs 1.52 crore to

Rs 2.64 crore.

Colaba corporator Vinod Shekhar, whose mother Annie Shekhar is an MLA, showed a jump in assets from Rs 1.28 crore to Rs 1.83 crore. However, the only property that he has is a 350-sq ft house in Badlapur and almost Rs 99 lakh in bank accounts.
