There are 118 departments in the BMC and the employees are divided into 890 cadres, including seven cadres of engineers. The civic administration feels that the employees need to be trained to cope with the city's growing population and constant upgradation of infrastructure. The training is also a part of the tripartite agreement between the Union government, state government and the BMC under the JNNURM.
Accordingly, the BMC had requested the director general of YASHADA to study the ground situation and devise a training programme.
The training, called Training Need Assessment, will be carried out in two phases. In the first phase, the YASHADA faculty will interact with senior and middle-level officers, organise seminars and then frame a broad outline of the training with maximum weightage for inter-departmental co-ordination. A detailed programme of the actual training will be worked out in the second phase.
The BMC will spend over Rs 27 lakh for the first phase of the training. A proposal regarding the same has been tabled with the standing committee and is expected to be discussed and approved on Wednesday during the meeting.
