BPCL to enter entertainment retail, ad sector

Kanpur, February 24 Soon Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) will set up retail stores at its 400 petrol pumps in the country. The corporation is planning to enter the retail, entertainment and advertisement sector, said BPCL Managing Director Ashok Sinha at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) on Sunday.

Sinha, an IIT-K alumni, was speaking at the annual general meeting of the institute’s alumni association. Several alumni were conferred with Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA) and Satyendra K Dubey Memorial Award. DDA is the highest award given by institute to its alumni in recognition of their achievements.

Sinha, who received the DDA award, said BPCL also plans to enter to enter the entertainment sector by introducing film theatres in Gujarat.

He added efforts were on to supply cooking gas to the residents of Kanpur through pipes (Piped Natural Gas).

DDA awardees included Avaya Laboratory president Ravi Seth, Accenture India Managing Director Harsh Manglik and IIT-Mumbai Director Ashok Misra. Satyendra K Dubey Memorial Award was presented to Anubrotta Kumar Roy.
