Incidentally, the spot where the IED blast occurred, had also witnessed shelling from Pakistan side in the wee hours on Monday, official sources said.
A BSF spokesman said that the firing had occurred on at around 2.00 am, wherein the intense firing from the Pakistan soil had taken place for over half an hour.
However, the firing had fallen silent after half an hour, the BSF spokesman said adding that a search operation had been undertaken by the BSF troops in the wee hours to carry out a combing operation to look for possibility of any militant having infiltrated taking cover of the wee-hour firing.
Later in the morning, the senior BSF official DIG O P Tanwar went to the firing spot in Ramgarh sector, wherein his vehicle came under the impact of an IED near the fence.
Top BSF officials and police officials have rushed to the spot to make an on spot assessment.
BSF to protest with Pak Rangers after DIG killed in IED blast
The BSF will lodge a protest with Pakistan Rangers at a flag meet after a DIG of the force was killed in the blast triggered by militants near the Indo-Pak border in Samba sector.
"A flag meeting will be held with Pakistan Rangers where a protest will be lodged," a senior BSF officer at the force headquarters here said.
52-year-old DIG O P Tanwar had gone to the area to conduct a combing operation this morning after the post came under fire from across the border since last night.
During the combing operation, a blast took place, killing Tanwar and leaving two others badly injured.

Unless u follow "an eye for and eye" policy towards Pakis, such killings will go on. It is very clear from day one that infiltration is going on with the help of Pak army. Then what is the need of lodging protests after protests and continue to receive bullets in return. We should keep our eyes wide open 24x7 throughout in all directions. Motivate our security forces to be alert. Expect enemy from land/sea/air and underground passages. We need to snap all kind of relations with Pakis and concentrate on our security. Taking advantage of immunity to high commission staff they may be sending across fake currencies, explosives and other materials. There is also a need to restrict issue of visas to Pakis. They may come in disguise from neighbouring countries, europe, gulf etc. So strict checking at all locations is necessary. Keep a watch on corrupt officials/staff at sensitive posts and everybody should be taught not to compromise on our nations security for any inducements.
This problem is not new to our news agencies or people even the politicians. All the politicians include our PM & President also didn't have backbone . It is a shocking news in the last couple of weeks since the Indian forces strength are slowly receeding in accordance with the policy adopted by Indian government without taking the overall correct and actual situation. If you had linkage with rawalpindi, you must be a pakistani and must be independent. If you are kashmiri, you are still an Independent Indian. I would do anything to tear him into two.. We dont want anyone one of them here.. We dont want anymore of our Indian mothers, sisters to lose their sons brothers and husbands.. we dont want families to split and go haywire.. PLEASE GET OUT OF KASHMIR & LET US DECIDE IF WE WANT TO LIVE WITH INDIA OR PAK. Independence is NO option. And about this Tariq who posted above, I would like to tell you all that he might be from the notorious PDP which gulps down money from both INdia and Pak to keep their shop running and ridicule Pak at the same time.. When there is firing fom the Paki side, is there no firing from the Indian side in retaliation? Whenever firing by the Pakis is reported, the reports mention nothing about the response from the Indian side. Does the Indian side take everything lying down? How gutless! No wonder the Pakis are riding roughshod over the Indians. All this sounds too strange for words.
Kashmir is no different from India. It is just another state of India. People of Kashmir should rather concentrate their efforts and thoughts on how to thrive within the framework of the constitution. I assure you all Indian people India will become superpower only and only when India will withdraw its troops from Kashmir. The only thing 80% people of Kashmir want to make their own identity. And that is possible only when Kashmir will be given complete freedom, and that is in the hands of people of India. After leaving Kashmir India will grow faster and I assure you that people of India will not sleep on roads like I see in various metro states of India. Also people will not be called as slumps and there will not be any area in India called as slumps area, educated but unemployed people will get the jobs with the result economy will increase and one day Indian currency will beat US $. We're not wasting any money. When we pay our soldiers, their families spend it in India for clothing and education, and it goes right back into our economy.
