Presently, to change any tariff plan, a customer has to wait till the next billing cycle after making an application as the process involves conveying the details of the change of tariff plan to all the exchanges. Now with the new billing software in place, all this process will be possible at the mere click of a button.
The customers will also get a convergent bill — there will not be any separate bills for mobile, landline, broadband or other such facilities. So, if you are a BSNL customer and have subscribed for various services, a single bill will suffice.
“The project is under way and we will start implementing it in four months. The software will be housed at the Chinchwad office. It is part of the biggest information technology projects in the country,” said BSNL Principal General Manager (Pune) V K Mahendra. “The project will be implemented in a phased manner in these states, with Kalyan region being the first beneficiary followed by Pune,” said BSNL General Manager(Development) D K Maheshwari.
The Chinchwad office of BSNL will also house a disaster recovery centre of the National Internet Backbone (NIB). “The centralised network office of NIB, which controls the internet services in the country, is at Bangalore. But if it fails, there should bean alternative system, at least 1000 km away from the seismic zone where the centre is located. Hence, the disaster centre will be at Chinchwad. This is a Rs 600 crore project,” said Mahendra.
The Chinchwad office will also have complaint redressal software called customer relationship management software for seamless redressal of complaints from customers, said Mahendra. BSNL is targeting the addition of another 37.5 lakh mobile connections in six months in the state. At presently, there are 30 lakh mobile customers of which 3 lakh are in Pune.
“We will also add 350 BTS towers to the present number of 378 to enhance the quality of service in the city,” he added.
