Lucknow Every vote given to the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) would indirectly bolster the BJP, alleged Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh on Sunday.

“If LK Advani becomes the prime minister, then Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati will be made the deputy prime minister,” he predicted.

“BSP BJP ka doosra pehlu hai (BJP and BSP are two sides of the same coin). Earlier also, Mayawati formed government thrice in the state in alliance with the BJP. She tied Rakhi to BJP candidate Lalji Tandon and campaigned for Narendra Modi in Gujarat,” said Amar while addressing party workers at a Holi Milan in Lucknow.

He added, however, that Mayawati’s dream of becoming prime minister would never be realised as she treats politics like business.

“Her support to the Third Front is an attempt towards achieving her dream. Like her, members of the Third Front such as Chandrababu Naidu, J Jayalalithaa and Naveen Patnaik were all associated with the BJP at some time or the other,” said Amar.

Regarding the Samajwadi Party’s relations with the Congress, he said the parties did not have ideological differences. “Hamara aur Congress ka vichaaron ka taalmel hai, seeton ka nahin (We share similar viewpoints even though we do not agree on the issue of seat-sharing),” said Amar.

He also defended the SP’s association with Kalyan Singh, saying that the party and the former BJP leader were equally committed to fighting communal forces.

Singh further said that while BJP candidate from Lucknow Lalji Tandon may have the support of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, SP candidate Sanjay Dutt has Gandhian values.

Dutt, who was also present on the occasion, referred to party workers and supporters as his ‘Circuits’ — a popular character in his Munna Bhai films — who would help him in defeating the ruling BSP. Reacting to Lalji Tandon calling him an outsider, he said, “How can I be an outsider? I am an Indian and have a right to be in every part of the country.”

THRICE BITTEN, NO SHY by K Sundar on 16 Mar 2009

This is definitely one of the possibilities. Who knows ? We might even have a rotation of PM like the experiment followed in UP and Karnataka since for the BJP it is "Thrice bitten, no shy" and it will still be prepared to cosy up once more with BSP to later cry that it has been betrayed to derive sympathy. These politicians have no shame left
