Bag with Rs 56 lakh stolen from bank vehicle, guards quizzed

New Delhi, February 19 A bag containing Rs 56 lakh was allegedly stolen from the vehicle of a security agency responsible for stacking the amount in Karnataka Bank’s ATM on GT Road in Model Town, northwest Delhi today.

According to police sources, the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when the employees of the agency were having lunch.

A senior police officer said four employees, including a driver, of Security Trans India Pvt Ltd were on duty to take the amount kept in a bag to stack in the ATM of Karnataka Bank.

When they reached the ATM, they stopped the vehicle to have lunch. After their lunch, they reportedly did not find their bag, which contained the cash, following which they called the police.

Police said they are interrogating the employees—Rajesh, Raj Kumar, Sanjeev and driver Harish Chander.

The police officer said there was no use of weapon, and that the employees were being interrogated to check their involvement, if any, in the theft.

Trader robbed off Rs 10 lakh, jewellery
Four armed men barged into the residence of an electronic goods trader in Anarwali Gali, Chandni Chowk, on Monday and robbed the inmates of Rs 10 lakh, gold and silver jewellery and a mobile phone, police said.

According to police, the robbery took place at 6.45 pm when trader Allaudin, who has a shop in Mayapuri, was away.

The men, who were armed with knives, tied his wife, Khatun Begum, and help, Ehsan, while they ransacked the house, police said.

Begum managed to free herself later and and and alerted the neighbours, who informed the police. A case of robbery (FIR no 28/07) was registered at Chandni Chowk Police Station following Begum’s complaint.
