The society has also launched a movement against the menace of fraud marriages in Canada. Society president Palwinder Singh Gill, while talking to The Indian Express, said this ban should be imposed in the entire Doaba region, from where maximum fraud marriages have been reported in the past seven years.
He said, “Victims of such marriages are always in a dilemma about whom to approach. Our society has been trying to mobilise public opinion by organising seminars, rallies, signature movements and submitting memorandums to the MPs for strict laws to combat this menace in Canada.”
“We haven’t got the desired result in the absence of proper legal and social support,” he rued.
Flaying politicians for making false promises, he said they play with the sentiments of the people to get political mileage.
“Even our society had received a number of complaints about the fraudulent marriages and actions of such political leaders. We will refer these to the Punjab Chief Minister and the DGP,” added Gill.
He urged the victims to mail complaints to fraudmarriage@hotmail.com.
