Beach Volleyball: Get the men topless, says US favourite

Beijing, August 7: For anybody moaning that Olympic beach volleyball is all about beach babes in bikinis, American Todd Rogers has an answer -- get the men to play bare-chested.

"You guys should get up a petition to get us just in boarders (shorts)," the 34-year-old said, laughing.

"I'm in. I'll sign. It's more comfortable anyway in this heat," he said, stretching out in the sand after a training session in a pair of long, red trunks and no top.

At the Olympics, men have to wear a sleeveless slip and shorts at least 10 cm (3.94 inches) above the knee. But in many beach volleyball tournaments, including the U.S. tour, men play in shorts with no shirt.

Women have the option of playing in a one-piece bathing suit but most opt to wear a bikini because the one-piece is uncomfortable when sand gets in.

Under women's Olympic beach volleyball rules, bikini bottoms should be 7 cm (2.76 inches) across the hip -- neither indecently skimpy nor overly constricting.
