Kolkata, May 8 When world renowned goalkeeper Oliver Kahn and his team Bayern Munich come down to Kolkata for the May 27 match, Mohun Bagan Club won’t the body to shower the former World Cupper with gifts and a send-off.

Kahn will play his farewell match against Mohun Bagan on May 27 at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan. The organisers of the event, Bengal-Peerless Group, have decided to pay due homage to the sturdy German custodian in their own special way.

The company top brass doesn’t want to reveal plans of what they are going to gift Kahn when he is here, but it was learnt that the Bengal-Peerless Group is planning to present him a number of special gifts, including a small replica of a football made entirely out of diamond and gold.

The company honchos meanwhile are a relieved lot now that the exhibition match has got the official go-ahead. And they are now focusing on how to go about planning out the presentations, which will be handed over to Kahn before the match.

Incidentally, a section of Peerless team’s football players as well as the team’s management are not exactly sure how they are going to benefit from the initiative of the Bengal-Peerless Group to bring the legendary footballers of Bayern Munich to town.

One of the senior officials of Peerless SC told The Indian Express: “The Bengal-Peerless Group is a sister concern of Peerless Investment & Finance Ltd. Naturally, the company’s initiative of bringing over this renowned team, which includes the legendary Kahn, will give our boys a huge boost and some required technical assiatance. But we are still in the dark over whether our footballers will be invited to the clinic of Bayern Munich. I hope the Peerless team won’t be finally neglected amidst the gala festival.”

Although the Indian Football Association (IFA) will be in charge of distribution of the tickets for the historic match, the organiser wants at least 40,000 tickets should be fixed at reduced price by maximum Rs 15 out of total 1, 31,000 tickets so that school students from all over Bengal can see Bayern Munich. Percept Communications has been appointed as marketing agent of Bengal-Peerless for the match.
