Ludhiana, March 21 The oft-repeated line 'burra na mano holi hai' will cut no ice with the police as they have stepped up its vigil to maintain law and order on the eve Holi. Here is a word of caution for the Holi revellers: the police are in no mood to give in the name of festivities.

The city youth too have become equally smart. Going by the past track record of cops of cracking down on youths for creating nuisance at public places on New Year, Valentine's Day and now Holi, youngsters have realised that it is safe to avoid main roads and stick to inner lanes of the city.

SP Headquarters Harish Kumar said, "Our purpose is just to facilitate the celebration. The orders from the top are: to be lenient with boys but not to spare miscreants. We will not tolerate boys harassing girls in the name of festivities. We have put special nakas near Sarabha Nagar Market, Model Town Market. Ghumar Mandi and other such places where youngsters love to hang around."

The SP has a word of caution: "The police will be strict with miscreants tomorrow."

And all this is surely bothering young lads. Sameer Kumar, a student, says, "I know there are boys who get drunk and create nuisance. We all just want to have fun. So the police can relax." But another student Ajay Singla complains, "The police are slightly harsh on boys. We do not want to harm anyone. We only want to have some great time friends on this day."
