New Delhi Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on Tuesday said that a divided Opposition has allowed Congress to become a "big fish", which was now trying to "swallow" regional parties including his party.

"Congress won in Maharashtra due to a divided opposition. However its vote share has gone down there. Till the opposition parties remain divided, Congress, which has become a big fish, will continue to swallow smaller parties. It is trying to do the same with SP also," he told reporters here.

Asked to react to MNS chief Raj Thackeray's diktat to MLAs to take oath in Marathi or face his party's wrath, the SP general secretary said, "We respect all languages of the country. But we will not tolerate any disrespect against Hindi. Congress will have to reply to this as it used MNS to divide the opposition during the recent assembly elections in Maharashtra."

Referring to raids on former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, Singh said Congress and RJD cannot be blamed for Koda's actions.
