After producing serials and software for television, India’s most famous bahu, Smriti Irani, is going to try her luck in tinsel town. Irani will produce her first film, a comedy, in collaboration with UTV. That is a change from her five-hankie roles on the small screen. While the cast has yet to be finalised, Irani is reluctant to reveal the director’s name either.

However, it is rumoured that Kamlesh Pandey of Rang De Basanti fame and Imtiaz Patel (of Haseena Maan Jaayegi) will be writing the script. The film is pitched as “a different kind of a comedy which Indian cinema has never ever witnessed”. After the impossible-to-tell-apart saasbahu stories, that is kind of brave.
