Patna The bullet-riddled body of kidnapped Bihar Military Police havildar Lucas Tete was recovered on Friday from Lakhisarai as the Maoist deadline for killing three remaining hostages expired with security forces intensifying operations to rescue them.

Superintendent of Police, Lakhisarai, Ranjit Kumar Mishra said a body found in the Simra Tari Sringirishi dam under Kajra police station in the district had been identified that of one of the kidnapped policemen - Lucas Tete.

Mishra said the body of Tete was found lying in a pool of blood on a road in the forests surrounded by hills.

A leaflet too has been recovered from near the body in which Maoists claimed to have killed the havildar and threatened that the other three held captive by them would also meet the same fate if the state government failed to release eight of their jailed colleagues, official sources said.

Self-proclaimed Maoist spokesman Avinash had yesterday claimed to have killed SI Abhay Yadav after the expiry of the deadline set by them for a government response to their demand by 4 pm yesterday.

The body of Abhay has not been located and neither was there any official confirmation.

"Combined forces of Cobra Battalion of CRPF, BMP, STF and SAP of Bihar police have intensified anti-Maoists operations for rescuing the policemen kidnapped by the Maoists during Sunday's encounter in Lakhisarai district," Inspector General (Operations), K S Dwivedi, overseeing the anti-Naxal operations, said.

BSF helicopters carrying Cobra battalion personnel are hunting for the Naxalites for ensuring safe release of the hostages, Dwivedi said.

Intense search operations continued in the hilly and forest areas in Dharhara, Kajra and several other places in Bihar's Munger, Jamui and Lakhisarai districts, he said.

Dwivedi said the police had not yet found the body of Abhay Yadav. Maoists claimed to have thrown his body in the forests under Kajra police station in Lakhisarai district.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called an emergency meeting at his official residence this noon.

Avinash earlier telephoned media offices here reiterating his claim of killing Yadav, the Manikpur Station House Officer, and renewed his readiness for holding talks with the state government for freeing the hostages in exchange for eight of the ultras lodged in different jails in Bihar.

"We know harming anybody is inhuman, but we are left with no other option than taking the extreme step... If the government is really interested in talks, it should halt the strike and pave way for initiating talks," Avinash said.

The Bihar Chief Minister had yesterday offered talks with Maoists.

The arrested Maoists were being looked after by the state government properly, Kumar had said adding, "We expect a similar treatment with the policemen."

The Maoists had yesterday warned that the remaining three hostages would be killed if the state government did not accept their demand for release of their jailed colleagues--Jai Paswan, Vijay Chourasia, Prem Bhuian, Pramod Barnawal, Ramvilas Tanti, Ramesh Tirki, Arjun Koda and Rattu Koda.

The rebels had kidnapped sub-inspectors Rupesh Kumar and Yadav, BMP havildar Ehtesham Khan and BMP ASI Tete after the encounter in Kajra police station area on Sunday which left eight policemen dead.

ADG (Headquarters) P K Thakur confirmed that the body recovered was that of BMP havildar Tete, a resident of Simdega in Jharkhand.

"It is an unfortunate happening... We strongly condemn the act of killing an unarmed policemen," Thakur said.

He said the combing operations would continue till the three remaining hostages were released safely.

Saffron terror by Kannan on 03 Sep 2010

Our spineless Home Minister who became an MP by manipualation has nothing to worry about these deaths. His focus is on the so called 'saffron terror'. Shame on him.

Tit forTat by A S Ahluwalia on 03 Sep 2010

What's wrong with us? Are we so soft that we can't think straight. The Maoists kill our security pers. and we keep contemplating a responce. Why can't we treat the prisioners they want released, in the same manner they treat our men? 1. Let us make recordings of them begging for their lives and brodcast them. 2. Let us give them ultimatums, the way they give us. This will scare them as much as it scares us, they will be preasurised by the kin of the prisoners as much as our government is being. This will even get the grand standing NGOs to get their acts in order. Call their bluff.

inhuman act by vaidyanathan k iyer on 03 Sep 2010

Naxals are inhuman and those who support them should also be sent exile. What a callous attitude? If they are unable to eke out their way of living let them die by hanging? Why the poor paid employees victimised to have carried out the government order?

Naxalism by Rama on 03 Sep 2010

Naxals are anti humans. They should be dealt in their own way.Their leader Mao has killed more than 8 crore of their own people. Now they want to repeat it in our country. These barbarians should be finished at all cost.

Support forTribals by Rajindar on 03 Sep 2010

Better laws are needed allowing poice force to quarantine naxalite leaders for two-three years without trial. Also a Presidential Commissionn to supervise development in all tribal designated tribal areas in the country. If this is done, naxaism will be dead in 5 years.

Mr by Pushan Sheth on 03 Sep 2010

Wonder where the NGOs are?? All of them seem to spring out of nowhere even if there is a slight suspicion of an encounter killing. Although both the things are condemnable, the society (esp. NGOs) should appreciate that security forces can't fight enemies like Naxals with their hands tied behind their backs.

killing of innocent police personnel by Maoist by R.Sreekumar on 03 Sep 2010

It is high time to amend the General Election Law to compulsoryinclude Kins of Politicians who are contesting the Elections both in States as well as Central. If this ia a pre-conditon for entering into Election Arena the kins of these politicians are forced to join either in Defence services(all the three services) /Para-military and other allied forces and will be deployed in Sensitive areas where their lives will become danger. In these circumstances only both Central and State Governments will wake up do theneedful.

It is not acceptable !! by chanakya on 03 Sep 2010

If maoists continue to believe only in voilent methods then there could be no alternative except equating them with terrorists. As they started kidnapping people and killing they will have to be answered in the same coin. These cadres are not political activists. They appear to be criminal gangs which are bent upon looting state property and extort money from industries. Such cadres need not be treated as depressed class volunteers. So called human acitivists jump at every opportunity but ironically keep silent when those rogue elements fire upon security cadres. It is high time to declare these out fits as terror elements and tried under seperate set of laws.

eliminate dark forces by People Group Against Maoist Terrorism on 03 Sep 2010

We must eliminate the dark forces.People and army march together and search together and find out maoist terrorist and eliminate them.First we identified the location ,if they are in a forest ,we must destroy that area by using airforce.some official saying they are indian people we can not use air-force.if they are Indian's they must obey our rules and they must participate in our democracy.otherwise we can eliminate them for the safety of good people and nation. We can see, they are killing poor people, innocent people and Mamata is supporting them.Prime Minister must be ask her resignation from the union cabinet.she is playing cheap politics for getting a CM post in West Bengal.

Maoist menace by EssEss on 03 Sep 2010

It is very sad and unfortunate that an innocent's life has been taken. The Maoists, irrespective of their demands, have no business in killing innocents! The Govt must do all it can to get rid of this menace before more lives are lost. Time for the both the Central and State Govt to wake up and put an end to this kind of madness!! Chidambaram !! Where are you ????

Naxalism by Vaid S C K on 03 Sep 2010

Till such time, politicians send their children to armed forces and police, innocents people shall continue to die. Pliticians shall always fail to find any permanent solution to such problems.IT IS SHAME TO CALL INDEPENDENT INDIA WHAT MAHATAMA GANDHI HAD DREAMT.
