‘Billu’ delivers a decent performance in international markets

Mumbai ‘Billu’ has done favorable business in the international markets. Of course, the presence of Shah Rukh Khan did enhance its prospects. The opening weekend is quite good in U.K. and America, but plain average in Australia. The film has touched almost Rs. 5 crores from these three markets… ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ continues to go from strength to strength in U.S. [$ 88 million], U.K. [£ 20 million] and Australia [Aus $ 11.8 million]. Superb!

U.K. BOX-OFFICE

Weekend: February 13 - 16, 2009.

•‘Billu’ has debuted at No. 14 position. In its opening weekend, the film has collected £ 2,79,448 [approx. Rs. 1.95 crores] on 53 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 5,273.

•‘Naan Kadavul’ [Tamil film; last weekend: No. 39, this weekend: No. 44]: In its second weekend, the film has collected £ 6,434 on 3 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 2,145. Total: £ 23,524 [approx. Rs. 16.45 lacs].

•‘Chandni Chowk To China’ [last weekend: No. 45, this weekend: No. 62]: In its fifth weekend, the film has collected £ 1,533 on 2 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 767. Total: £ 4,93,675 [approx. Rs. 3.45 crores].

•‘Luck By Chance’ [last weekend: No. 34, this weekend: No. 70]: In its third weekend, the film has collected £ 1,222 on 6 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 204. Total: £ 1,27,719 [approx. Rs. 89.32 lacs].

•‘Raaz - The Mystery Continues’ [last weekend: No. 49, this weekend: No. 72]: In its fourth weekend, the film has collected £ 1,162 on 2 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 581. Total: £ 89,942 [approx. Rs. 62.90 lacs].

U.S.A. BOX-OFFICE

Weekend: February 13 - 15, 2009.

•‘Billu’ has debuted at No. 29 position. In its opening weekend, the film has collected $ 5,12,124 [approx. Rs. 2.55 crores] on 70 screens, with the per screen average working out to $ 7,316.

•‘Luck By Chance’ [last weekend: No. 44, this weekend: No. 60]: In its third weekend, the film has collected $ 15,270 on 17 screens, with the per screen average working out to $ 898. Total: $ 3,53,298 [approx. Rs. 1.76 crores].

AUSTRALIA BOX-OFFICE

Weekend: February 12 - 15, 2009.

•‘Billu’: In its opening weekend, the film has collected approx. Aus. $ 1,06,717 [approx. Rs. 34.09 lacs] on 15 screens, with the per screen average working out to Aus. $ 7,250.

Billu has already collected 15 crores in India and now around 5 cores in overseas territory. In a couple of weeks it collections around the world will be around 30 crores...it was made at a modest budget of around 18 crores and sold at 35 crores...all in all a big success for its producer SRK....
