The 24-minute power failure brought the match to an unexpected halt even as the celebrities such as Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra, Shah Rukh Khan and a lot of tinsel town glitterati were awaiting in the stands for the match to resume.
The CESC has squarely blamed the CAB for the fault, while the latter has blamed the former for the fiasco. “We have paid the CESC Rs 41 lakh for power supply for all the seven IPL matches to be held at the Eden. It’s their duty to ensure uninterrupted power supply,” Amitava Banerjee, Joint Secretary, CAB said.
Blaming the CAB for the faux pas, the PWD minister Kshiti Goswamy, who had earlier ordered an enquiry into the matter by an engineer, released a copy of the enquiry report. The report said that the PWD had no role in the issue because the maintenance of the floodlight system at the Eden lies with an agency hired by CAB. “We assist them during big matches. Yesterday the movement of our men was restricted and they had a harrowing time in reaching the control room when the system had tripped. However, power was restored in 25 minutes,” Goswamy said.
Terming it a shameful event, which has tarnished the image of Kolkata, Subhas Chakrabarty, state Minister for Transport and Sports said: “We have formed a committee comprising people from police, sports and PWD. It has been asked to submit a report before the next IPL match takes place there on April 29.”
