New Delhi, January 18 The errant Blueline fleet crushed two persons on Friday, taking the toll to five, in the first 18 days of the year.

The first incident took place around 11.30 am at Moti Nagar, when Satte Singh, 70, and his daughter-in-law Neelam were walking towards their home in Basai Darapur village. As they reached Moti Nagar Chowk in west Delhi, a speeding Blueline bus, (route number 816, between Malka Ganj and Uttam Nagar) hit Singh from the left, eyewitnesses have told the police. He fell on the road and the bus crushed him, eyewitnesses said.

The driver abandoned the bus and fled the spot, the police said.

Singh was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital; he was declared dead on arrival. Moti Nagar police have registered a case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving and is looking for the driver. The bus has been impounded, police said.

Senior police officers said, “Singh was returning from the local market with his daughter-in-law. The driver apparently did not spot the two — he was busy competing with another bus.”

Medical fitness of the bus was done last year and the report was found to be valid, police officers said.

In the second incident, 40-year-old Dinesh Kumar became the fifth victim of the Blueline deaths this year. He was killed by a bus on route number 753 while crossing the road at Mayapuri chowk at 9.30 pm.

Kumar was taken to DDU Hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Kumar worked in a factory at Kirti Nagar, the cops said.

The police are searching for the bus driver.
