Melbourne, August 21: Australian pace spearhead Brett Lee confirmed on Thursday that the breakdown of his two-year-old marriage was behind his decision to skip the three-match one-day series against Bangladesh starting August 30.

Media reports had said that the marital problems Lee was having with his wife Liz Kemp could be the possible reason behind Lee missing the ODI series.

Cricket Australia (CA) had announced on Wednesday that Lee has decided to give a miss to the series citing 'personal reasons'.

And now, the 31-year-old speedster confirmed in a brief statement, released through CA that the break-up with Liz was the reason behind his decision of skipping Bangladesh series.

"We have been caught by surprise as to how quickly our situation has become public," Lee said in the statement. "It is with regret that I confirm today's media reports are correct and that Liz and I have decided to separate. Given the personal nature of the matter I ask that you please respect our privacy as we attempt to deal with this sensitive situation."

Lee, who married Kemp in June 2006, said he would not make any further comment on the issue.
