London Prince Harry is being probed by the British Army for the ‘racist’ remarks he had made three years ago against two of his colleagues, calling one of them a ‘Paki’ and the other a ‘raghead’.

While the third-in-line to the British throne has publicly apologised for the remarks, the Army has launched an investigation into the issue, vowing to deal with the matter in line with ‘normal Army procedures’.

"The Army does not tolerate inappropriate behaviour in any shape or form," a Spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence was quoted by 'The Daily Telegraph' as saying.

Even though the young Pakistani officer has not made a formal complaint, the publication of the tape, in which Harry was filmed making the ‘racist’ remarks, forced the Household Cavalry to begin an investigation within the chain of command.

But, it is understood that Harry, an Army Lieutenant in the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals division, is very much unlikely to face formal charges and could escape with a little more than a ‘dressing down’ from his current Commanding Officer, the British daily said.

Paki is a derogatory term for Indians and Pakistanis.

The Prince had made the remark in 2006 at an airport departure lounge as soldiers waited to travel to Cyprus for training.

And, the 24-year-old made the second remark in Cyprus when he called another cadet, wearing a headscarf, a ‘raghead’ which is a racist term for Arabs.

When contacted, Clarence House said that Prince Harry ‘fully understands’ how offensive the term he used was but it said that it had been ‘without malice’.

Paki the Pakis by Hero Vaz on 13 Jan 2009

In England, the level of ignorance is so high that, by Paki, the half-educated Brits mean Pakis and Indians. "Prince" Harry is no exception. He should be presented with a map of Asia and shown that India and Pakistan are different countries and that, while the people of Pakistan can be called Pakis, the people of India are Indians. It is true, that 'Paki', at one time, was a derogatory term but, now, knowing the type the Pakistani are, it has become quite apt !!!

Prince Harry's racist remark by Utpal Bhattacharya on 13 Jan 2009

Calling Indians as 'Paki' only exposes the level of Geography being taught in English schools. And to top that the prince is an army officer. Wonder if he knows how to read his map properly. In a war situation he might lead his soldiers to the wrong battle front. Some food for thought for the Pommies. Thank God our Indian army officers are much well trained than the Pommies.

Royalty by INDIAN on 12 Jan 2009

The British royals are part of Joseph's blood line. They are the sons of Joseph, called Eprahiam. That is why they are royal. They are Israel origin. Do they know I dont know.Any way they should not be insulting others. Pakistans are called Paki's. What else are they called?

Paki = Pakistani by Eddy on 12 Jan 2009

There is nothing wrong in what Prince Harry has said. Those are the real feelings that the white British people feel when they see cap wearing, long-beared men from Pakistan and Arab women wearing headscarves and black burkhas on their streets. They feel that their own culture and way of life has been invaded. It is but a natural feeling. The Prince merely spoke his mind which common British people are forced to keep inside as it is thought to be politically incorrect. The short form of Pakistani is a Paki.

ROYAL SLUR by vito on 12 Jan 2009

Paki Brit by Hero Vaz on 12 Jan 2009

What about a Britisher being called a Brit?

British "royalty" by Hero Vaz on 12 Jan 2009

Why do people notice so much what British royalty does? They are, in the present day and age, an anachronism on whom tax payers money is wasted. This apart, their conduct and behaviour have been far from exemplary; it has even been disgraceful. Nothing about them is worthy of finding a place in the media.

Prince Harry's remarks by Prashant Kutty on 12 Jan 2009

I don't know much about the slur words but if a Pakistani is not be called a Paki then what they are supposed to be called. Further, Indian's cannot be called Paki as Indians are not Paki. I find very little cause for concern in the remark.

paki=south asians by smr_us on 13 Jan 2009

thank god people in india now now that term paki is used by white trash for indian/pakistanis/sri lankans/bangladeshi alike.. it has nothing to do with counrty rather with how all these people look alike.. if not in color..in facial and body feature always..

tom, dick or harry by Raj on 13 Jan 2009

We should not give any importance to anything a tom, dick or harry says. And please Indian media stop calling this guy prince. He is not any Indian prince.
