The top bureaucrats and officials of chief minister's secretariat are constant apprising their central government counterparts over the latest situation in the Hills.
State Home Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborti said, “We are in constant touch with the union government regarding the Darjeeling problem and trying to find a solution.”
Meanwhile, at Tuesday's all-party meet, the chief minister is all set to table a proposal stating that the state government will not tolerate lawlessness in the plains.
The chief minister wants all the political parties to ratify the proposal, so that when he has to take stringent action against violence in the plains, everyone supports him. sources said.
Sources in the chief minister’s secretariat said that Bhattacharjee is also in constant touch with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee over the issue.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Cabinet core committee took place today, where the chief minister made a detailed presentation of his plan to resolve the Darjeeling crisis. Five senior ministers attended the meeting at the Writers’ Buildings.
After the meeting, RSP leader and PWD minister Kshiti Goswami said, “The state government has nothing to do with the separate statehood demand.”
The chief minister said that the state government is ready to hold talks with the GJM only if the issue of separate statehood is not included in the agenda.
The chief minister also wants the separate statehood issue should be resolved by the Centre.
Sources said that since none of the big political parties have any base or stake in Darjeeling, it has made difficult for the state government to find a political solution to the problem and much rests on Centre’s intervention.
