New Delhi The government's 2009/10 budget was pro-growth and addressed the stimulus needs of the economy, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, the deputy chairman of the country's Planning Commission, said on Wednesday.

"Yes, I think so," he said when asked if the Monday's budget provided required stimulus for the economy.

The commission would carry out a mid-term review of its current five-year economic plan, and that would be reflected in next year's budget, Ahluwalia said.

Budget should consolidate on its distribution of political power to the poor... by CK Raju, Thrissur on 08 Jul 2009

In the post budget discussions, it is noteworthy to see only an elite section being drawn in - and their problems getting discussed. More stimulus should be on NREGA - its scope should be extended to include technologists as well - those who are rejected from markets also need to survive alongside the world's poor. This should be the ideal time - integrate such activities with the work undertaken through NREGA. Let everyone have an experience of the miseries down under.
