Commentator Jack Cafferty was only "offering his strongly held opinion of the Chinese government, not the Chinese people", a point he has subsequently clarified, the Atlanta-based broadcaster said.
CNN's clarification came a day after the Chinese foreign ministry demanded an apology from it, saying Beijing was "shocked" at the remarks and strongly condemned them.
CNN, among the Western media that is under attack from China over their "distorted" coverage of the Tibet unrest, said "... it was not Cafferty's, nor CNN's, intent to cause offence to the Chinese people and (CNN) would apologise to anyone who has interpreted the comments in this way".
"We are also running hundreds of billions of dollars worth of trade deficits with them, as we continue to import their junk with the lead paint on them and the poisoned pet food and export, you know, jobs to places where you can pay workers a dollar a month and turn out the stuff that we're buying from Wal-Mart”, Cafferty had said in his remarks in "The Show Room", a political programme.
"So, I think our relationship with China has certainly changed. I think they're basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years", he had said in the programme.
Cafferty is a white piece of trailer trash. The Americans have been building up China since Nixon and now they are lecturing their own creation in CCP. It does not help that India is ruled by a gutless PM who is afraid to visit Arunachal Pradesh and grovels before the genocide torch while signing away India's nuke control to the Americans. But the PM gets to have a fake diploma form Oxford and Harvard.

I saw a lot of comments and most are abused. Please understand that Chinese Government, not Chinese people, is wrong to deal with Tibet issue. The extreme language will results in "hate" in people's mind. I think most Chinese people have the same question here- If it happens in California, what American people or government will do if "California" wants to be independen?
Mr Cafferty has no reason to apologise, as the Chinese are a bunch of rogues and 3rd rate goons. They are flooding the market with cheap quality goods, they have no business scruples and the commy govt is one of thw worst as far as human rights are concerned. China should indeed thank Jack, because he has been so mild in his comment. In fact, the rulers of China are barbarians and gruesome beasts. Chink communists are indeed a bunch of thugs and goons! Jawaharlal Nehru made many serious foreign policy blunders, one of the most devastating of them was failing to counter China when it was occupying Tibet. And today China is tapping at our borders asking for territory from India! The way they are suppressing the Tibetans is terrible, if we dont react even now, then we would lose our right to call ourselves Humans.

Chinese government is certainly qualified to be called a "bunch of goons". Look at what it is doing to Tibet. It has forcefully colonized Tibet just because Tibet is strategically located and is mineral/water rich. It is trying to annihilate an entire people and it is committing cultural genocide in Tibet. I am as much scared of Chinese imperial ambitions as the next guy but you need to give them their due. For 5000 years China (and India ofcourse) has been one of the greatest ancient civilizations. Much of modern day morality and humanity comes from Chinese thinkers and philosophers. Don;t make hateful ignorant remarks like a middle school dropout.

It is neither hateful nor ignorant to call the current Chinese regime a bunch of goons and thugs. The comment specifically applied to the last 50 years - not 5000 years - and certainly not for the Chinese people. It is the communist regime at whom the remarks were directed - even a middle school dropout should understand that.
