A resident of Khodiyarnagar, Anand Tank was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a piece of cloth in his room in the morning by his elder brother. He was rushed to a government hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The police recovered a suicide note from his room. “He (Anand) has written that he was afraid that he would fail in the forthcoming board exams. So, he decided to end his life,” said the police.
They added that the father of the deceased, Hasmukhbhai, died seven years ago, and he had been living with his mother and an elder brother. On Sunday, his mother went to Porbandar.
Sumit told the police that he last met Anand before he went to his room to sleep. The next morning, Anand did not open the door till late, after which Sumit, with the help of neighbours, broke open the door and saw his brother’s body hanging from the fan.
Last month, three students from Rajkot ended their life because of the mounting study pressure. Following this, the District Education Office, schools and parents decided to take steps to prevent the rise in suicide cases among students. While it has been decided to start a counselling centre at each school, the number of suicides still continues to rise.
