Chandigarh A bus driver was found with a fake identity card at ISBT-43 on Monday.

He had also been operating a private AC bus under the false banner of Punjab Roadways. The man fled, but the bus was impounded by the CTU Union.

Harpreet Singh, the driver of a private bus (PB08 BK 9915) was carrying a fake identity card of Punjab Roadways. The bus used to ply between Chandigarh and Ludhiana even though he had permit for Chandigarh-Delhi.

The CTU Workers’ Union claimed that the bus had started around two days ago.

“From the first day, we had doubts regarding the bus, as we had not been notified about the starting of such a bus on this route. Today, on enquiring the driver, we came to know that he was carrying a fake Punjab Roadways identity card. Later, he admitted that the bus was illegal as well,” said Raj Kumar Sharma, the general secretary CTU Workers’ Union.

He added that STA Secretary Vandana Disodia and CTU Director M L Sharma have been informed about illegal buses running from ISBT.

The bus did not even have a registration certificate. So far, no police case has been registered against anyone.
