The Uttar Pradesh Crime Branch-CID took over investigations into the arson at UPCC chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi's residence here on July 15.
The inquiry had been taken over by the CB-CID after the Mayawati government issued an order to this effect on Sunday, ADGP (Law and Order) Brij Lal told reporters.
Asked who was the owner of a vehicle purportedly used by the arsonists to arrive at Joshi's residence, he said since the CB-CID was probing the incident, they would be in a better position to say anything in this regard.
The vehicle, recovered in the state capital, had been declared as an abandoned one, police said.
Joshi, charged with making derogatory remarks against BSP supremo and Chief Minister Mayawati, had demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident.
Joshi alleges threat to her life
Alleging the state police was in league with the ruling BSP, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi on Monday said she apphrehended a threat to her life from the Mayawati government. Talking to reporters here, Joshi, in the eye of a storm over her allegedly derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Mayawati, also charged she was treated like a terrorist in Moradabad jail.
A BSP MLA and other party workers "looted, destroyed and set afire" to her house at the behest of the Chief Minister in the presence of top police officers, she alleged. She had no faith in the state police, Joshi said and demanded a CBI probe into the arson incident. "I was treated like a terrorist in jail and was not allowed to meet my family members. Even legal assistance was denied to me. "Under such circumstances I feel serious threat to my life as the state government can go to any extent," she said.
Alleging the BSP dispensation instigated the attack on her house, Joshi said "the intentions of the government are not noble. I want a CBI probe and if required will move the court in this regard." Setting July 31 as the deadline for the government to recommend a CBI probe, the 60-year-old Congress leader said if this was not done, she would approach the court "Unless a CBI probe is ordered, the truth will not come out," she said.

The present controversy involving Ms Mayavathi and Mrs Joshiis disgusting and repulsive. Sooner it ends the better. Mrs Mrs Rita Bahuguna Joshi was obviously carried away by the usual rhetoric that Indian politicians indulge in day-in and day-out. Obviously, she went too far. And as for Madam Mayavathi, she is never known for grace and forgiveness. When every single politician in the country condemned Mrs Joshi for her intemperate utterances, Mayavathi should have forgiven her and let bygones be bygone. Afterall, in the heat of the moment, at times we do say things which we regret later.And Mrs Joshi apologised for her momentory lapse in judgement.But by nature being vidictive, Madam Mayavathi wants her pound of Joshi's flesh.All this is in poor taste reflecting very badly on Indian politics!Prof G.N.Rao,Hyderabad

This woman nust be provided with Z catagory security by central Govt. and if possible arrange atleast one platform in each district in UP to shoot her mouth off.
