Initially, the system would be installed in cities of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Gandhinagar and Somnath.

In all, 167 traffic junctions and 128 strategic locations have been chosen for installation of the CSITMS that will provide round-the-clock surveillance recording real-time information including voice and video from different areas.

"The tenders for installation of the CSITMS in major cities of the state has been floated by the Home department," said SK Sinha, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Law and Order.

He said this system would help in providing quick response in all emergencies be it security or traffic.

According to the state Home department, the CSITMS will be an Internet Protocol (IP) based system that would be installed to safeguard public areas, to minimise environmental and human threats and prevent crime.

The CSITM system would have a network of cameras installed at government or private building which would send the video captured through fiber optic cables or a wireless network to the control room, located in each of the cities.

The cameras that would be used for this kind of high security system would have capability of zooming, panning besides being able to work in low luminance (light) environment. The system would be used for monitoring sensitive areas as well as busy traffic junctions to deter law breakers.

It will provide surveillance round-the-clock making real-time information available to avoid traffic congestions, a quick detection of crime like loot and robbery. It will also help in process efficiencies, reduce crime and improve premise security of government as well as other facilities of strategic importance.

CSITMS would also have motion detection and day-night colour vision capability. The system would be capable of identifying red light and lane violators at junctions, those moving in wrong direction, speeding, illegal parking, automatic number plate recognition, face recognition, head counting, smoke detection.

It would also be able to detect significant activities in the city and generate appropriate alerts like breach of traffic rules, suspect vehicle identification, people running, abandoned baggage or item and others.

There would be control centre in each city with CSITMS and a central command and control centre would be set up in Ahmedabad or Gandhinagar.

This central command would have capability to view and control the cameras and other system components across all the cities having CSITMS.
