New Delhi Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan suggested that the government should impose a ban on websites that exclusively display pornography and hate speeches.

"For local jurisdiction there are problems on account of the structure of the flow of information over the internet.

End users can fake identities using proxy servers to misguide the investigating agencies. The government can place ban on websites that exclusively circulates pornography and hate speeches," he said here.

"However, it would not be right to place a blanket ban on all categories of websites. It is also important to distinguish between intermediaries such as network service providers, website operators and individual users for the purpose of placing liabilities," Balakrishnan said.

He made the suggestion while inaugurating the "Cyber Law Enforcement Programme and National Consultation Meeting" organised by the Supreme Court in association with the Cyber Appellate Tribunal, Ministry of Communication Information Technology, Department of Information Technology and the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).

Judges, DGPs of various states, besides cyber technology experts participated at the meeting held at the NASC Complex.

Porn should not be banned there are lots of things that must be banned and not porn

India is sould out totally , bigger picture on CJI porn ban by Truth Medianist on 01 Feb 2010

The Government sinister programs first starts with showing that they want to do something good for the general public and for their benifit and so is the case here. The Government wants to control our freedom of speech, expression and thoughts and want to control the INTERNET the ultimate freedom of communication tool as directed by their overlords UN-US-NewWorldOrder Big Corporations. If they want to stop porn on internet then they should be also willing to stop prostitution getting legalised in India but this is not the case at all. Read why government want to legalise prostitution. The New World Order wants to have commonwealth games in India but they also want lots of FUN in India when the overlords of BIG CORPORATIONS visit here for the games. So they have directed the Indian Government to make prostitution legalised as in HOLLAND and Indian Government is ready for it. With the legalisation of prostitution anyone can start the business of supplying prostitutes with a legal license and put adds in newspapers for job openings as "High Profile Escorts needed and highest international salaies would be paid". Our society is on the verge of becoming most corrupt and sinister and our own daughters, wivies, girlfriends, sisters , mothers are on the edge of the cliff to fall into the trap of "high income less work" to maintain the mad race of consumerism propogated by the BIG CORPORATIONS in India in the name of better life style. CJI SHOULD NOT MAKE PROSTITUTION LEGAL IN INDIA IN ANY CASE if HE REALLY CARE FOR INDIA AND INDIANS. Merely banning porn is no solution. Therefore it shows sinister motives of taking our freedom of speech and controlling the INTERNET in the name of Hate Speech and put end to porn on internet is just an excuse to take away our freedom. If this is not the case then LEGALISING PROTITUTION IN INDIA SHOULD NOT HAPPEN.

Sure. Please go ahead and implement the ban. But make sure to ban Time of India site first. Lot of bikini clad girls on the first page of login. I am unable to concentrate on the news segment there!

Let us think coolly by Manas Kumar on 01 Feb 2010

It is easy for some of us to get provoked by what he CJI has said. It is true that banning something is one sure way of arousing curiosity and surreptitious rebellious behaviour. But let us see what are the growing consequences of porn websites being freely available. Is it an accident that violent sexual behaviour like rapes and rape murders have increased? It is bringing us international shame, the assumption of some of our brethren being that the white women love being raped. It is time that we sit up and take notice, before we are branded as a nation of rapists.

Why all poors of India not starving anymore ? by indian on 01 Feb 2010

Another joke for us...Same has been done in Arab countries and still you see most porn search is done by Arabs on the net...How do you define porn ? People can watch it, make it, share it in many ways on the net....You dont even need a website for this to happen on the net...Lets talk about smoking ban in India now !!!

Bold by Raj on 01 Feb 2010

Kudos to CJI for having the boldness to say that porn sites have to be banned. As expected, i don't see any comments here supporting him for saying this. To get appreciation, one not only has to say the right thing, but has to belong to the elite upper caste, in India! What a sickening society.

I appreciate :Ban on pron by Nagendra Singh on 03 Feb 2010

hey man you educated and living in a City and talking about that way, come out life you will get to know there are 500 million poor people who are not educated or less educated, exposing pornography will spoil those people who didn't know what is right what is wrong, don't be selfish,India is not developed, who are you to talk like this way,are you making any effort to do good work for the society..no never so don't think like selfish people, kids or young ones easily learn bad think than good things so we need to protect our younger generation, use your energy in promoting education, welfare not in such things..

pornography by subramani on 01 Feb 2010

I strongly believe that pornography serves as an OUTLET to perverts otherwise they will add up to the CRIME RATES OF INDIA since we are living in an SUPPRESED society where the basic instinct is treated AS BIGGEST CRIME .The irony of it is ,INDIA who gave birth to KAMASUTRA and Khageraho to the world.

The tyranny called Government by Varun on 31 Jan 2010

The CJI's utterance betrays the feeling of an imperial super-lordship which his unaccountable office enjoys. The feudal "maaibaap" setup should come down.

CJ has no business to act as moral torch bearer w/o setting his own house in order by kush on 31 Jan 2010

CJ is wasting his time in issues which are not related to him - our country's legal system is so outdated that justice is not dispensed for decades - has CJ not heard that justice delayed is justice denied ? There are judges from SC and high courts involved in corruption cases - what action CJ has taken to redress those issues ? All criminals even after getting convicted very conveniently manage to get stay orders, bail or fall sick and seek medical treatment with private rooms ? What has he done to prevent these misuse ? Killers are getting parole for non existent reasons or false pretext - has CJ taken note of any of those issues ? None whatsowever but he wants to be a moral crusader - hypocrat, isn't he ?

How about dirty contents in TV ?... by 1st Idiot on 31 Jan 2010

Our TV channels belt out much more vulgarity and trash. Is anybody doing anything about it ?. Atleast internet is more controlled and parents can monitor what their children browse in internet whereas TV content is almost impossible.
