Kolkata, February 1 Avtec Ltd, the auto components-manufacturing company of the GP-CK Birla group, will commence production at its Kharagpur-based facility soon.

Group Chairman C K Birla met Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at Writers’ Buildings on Friday.

Talking to mediapersons, Birla said that the production at the Kharagpur facility would commence in a few months time.

“We are investing Rs 150 crore in the new unit,” Birla said. Avtec is specialising in the manufacture of engines and automatic transmissions.

Sources said that the manufacturing unit will produce auto components for passenger cars as well as commercial vehicles. “The auto sector in the state will grow in future. With big names heading for the state, the demand for components will rise. Component manufacturing and production will be important in this scenario,” said an official.
