According to party insiders, Mayawati has called a meeting of party functionaries, MPs, MLAs and ministers on July 4. “She would tell her workers as to how her rival parties, particularly the Congress, react over the constructions of the idols of great men, gurus and leaders who were born in the Dalit and the OBC communities,” a source said. According to him, she has also worked out a strategy to counter the chances of the Congress party’s revival in the state with the publicity of her projects. “The results of the last Lok Sabha elections were an eye-opener for her. She is worried about keeping her Dalit vote bank intact and her projects would be helpful for this purpose,” he said.
On Wednesday, the CM had described the memorials constructed by her as “centre of pilgrimage” for those who have faith in the men whose statues have been installed. She had also reminded that the followers of such personalities comprise at least 50 per cent of the country’s population.
Sources said the party would ask its functionaries to make people aware of the importance of statues in the history of social change. “She would ask us to communicate to our voters about the difficulties Dr Ambedkar had faced in the politics due to the opposition of the Congress party,” said a senior party leaders.
Most leaders felt that the attack on the Mayawati government over the issue of statues suits her political interest. Recently, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram had called the construction of memorials and statues “shameful”.
Party insiders say it has not been easy for Mayawati to express her open allegiance to scheduled caste voters since her party is in power because of the Sarvjan formula. “So, the issue of memorials has given her an opportunity to show her allegiance to the schedule caste voters once again,” a source said.
Mayawati’s renewed bid to keep her Dalit vote intact is also evident from her recent decision to provide for a quota in government projects for the contractors from the SC and ST communities.

IF MAYAWATI HAD THE SLIGHTEST THINKING POWER OR HAD THE RIGHT PEOPLE ADVISING HER, SHE WOULD HAVE GONE ALL OUT AND SPENT MONEY WILDLY FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE DALITS. NO ONE WOULD HAVE FAULTED HER FOR THAT. AND THEN, DALITS WOULD THEMSELVES HAD ERECTED HER STATUES AND THEN HER STATURE WOULD HAVE BEEN HIGHER THAN ANY STATUE EVER ERECTED. BUT, UNFORTUNATELY THESE POLITICIANS ARE SO SHORTSIGHTED THAT THEY CAN'T SEE BEYOND THEIR NOSE AND WANT TO GET EVERYTHING: POWER AND GLORY IN A VERY SHORT TIME. FOR HER INFORMATION NO POWER OR GLORY COMES WITHOUT WORKING FOR IT. AND ALL SHE HAS WORKED FOR IS GETTING ELECTED. AFTER THAT SHE HAS DONE VERY LITTLE TO SHOW THAT SHE DESERVES THE POWER OR THE GLORY BESTOWED UPON BY HER OWN SELF. SO, MAYAWATI, WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFE!
It is the saddest for UP to have such a CM who is not only unaware of her duties but also is indulging in misusing public exchequer for her whims. She is audacious to compare the father of nation with any other person. She does not know she has freedom to utter all her nonsenses because of Mahatma Gandhi only. She has not seen pre-independence period even she did not feel the Emergency period. She has spend 6500 crores on these statues while the people of the state are deprived of basic needs. Does she deserve to be national leader. We wish and pray to God to bless her with wisdom and common sense,
