The Trinamool Congress alleged that a group of 20 CPM workers, brandishing firearms, raided Hamid’s house in the morning and ransacked it before beating him up severely. Sekh Suffian, a local Trinamool leader, said the Nandigram police did not intervene when the incident occurred. On the other hand, Debasish Chakraborty of the Nandigram police said no such incident took place on Friday. Asoke Bera, sabhapati of the Nandigram Panchayat Samiti and member of the CPM District Committee, said there was a clash on Thursday night in which Abdul was involved, and that he injured in that incident.
“With panchayat election approaching, the situation is becoming grave in different areas of Nandigram. But with the active intervention of the police, the situation is under control,” Bera claimed.
Suffian said the party leadership would discuss the prevailing situation in Nandigram where “family members of Trinamool supporters were being targeted by CPM cadres in the presence of the CRPF”.
