Kolkata, May 10 Trinamool Congress chief, Mamata Banerjee, made a scathing attack on the Left Front government in the state for unleashing “organised terror” in Bankura, Burdwan, Purulia, East and West Midnapore districts which goes to the polls in the first phase of the panchayat elections on Sunday.

The scale of terror is particularly intense in Khejuri, Patashpur, Bhagabanpur and Garbeta, she said. She also did not spare the state election commission and accused it being biased.

The police are spreading terror on behalf of the CPM. The OC of Nandigram police station, the SP and DIG — all three — have their hands stained with the blood of the mass killings of March 14, Mamata said.

“There is a total anarchy here. The government is playing to the tunes of the CPM. The police have become the “Red army” who are dedicated to protect the CPM cadres. It is a shame that the police cannot protect the intellectuals,” she added.

State Secretary of the SUCI, Provash Ghosh, also came down heavily on Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee for his remark that “people will vote with a festive spirit during the panchayat polls.” Ghosh termed Bhattacharjee’s remark as “cruel joke” in the “midst of prevailing atmosphere of terror.”
