Kolkata The body of a CPM leader from Rajarhat in North 24 Parganas was found today hanging from the ceiling fan in a room at the Chaitanya Math Ashram in Mayapur, Nadia. The local committee member has been missing for the past two days from his home in Kalipark under airport police station.

Originally Sunil Chandra Roy, he had changed his name to Sudhir Das in the ashram. “Preliminary investigation has revealed he committed suicide. Further probe is on,” said Nadia Additional Police Superintendent Annappa E.

According to the police, Roy came to the Math Friday night. He checked in at the ashram and wanted to book a room for two days. The ashram authorities allotted him a room in one of their guest houses and he entered his name as Sudhir Das. Later in the night, he had prasad served by the ashram and even took part in the worship and rituals.

“Saturday morning too, he was seen taking a walk and even visited the ISKCON temple. Later, he retired to his room and did not turn up at noon to have his lunch. The ashram authorities found his room was bolted from inside. No body answered despite repeated calls. They then called the police,” said an officer of Nadia police.

Later, when the police broke open the door, they found him hanging from the ceiling fan. His body has been sent for postmortem. A bottle of water and some biscuits were found in his room.

Police said Roy went out for his usual morning walk on Thursday. He had a small hand bag and some money with him. However, he did not return home and his family members lodged a missing complaint with airport police station in the afternoon. Roy was a businessman and owned private buses that ran on route number 217.
