Kolkata, February 25 Over 60 percent of Calcutta University’s B Com students, who had earlier requested for a review of their examination paper answer sheets, have seen a substantial improvement in their scores.

The introduction of consolidated review results of the university showed that out of the 4,721 students, who had applied for a review, 2,917 students go to see their marks increasing, resulting a change in the status of 455 students. This implies that the division achieved by 455 students have improved. If some one had earlier got second, third divisions or had failed, then after the review he/she has now achieved first, second or passed with third division respectively.

Of the 1583 students in the part- I (1+1+1) new examination 2007, marks of 990 students have changed, altering the status of results of 224 students. Among the 3,056 students , who were not satisfied with their previous results for the Part II (1+1+1) old examination, 1,896 candidates saw their marks improving, thereby changing the status of 225 candidates. Similarly of the 80 students who sought review of their scripts under part I (2+1) examination marks of 31 students changed affecting the result status of six students.

“If the change in the marks is very minimal, the evaluation of the examiners cannot be questioned. However, if the increase of marks is about 10 to 12 marks then the university will have to look for the reasons of the lax,” said Suranjan Das, the Pro Vice-Chancellor (academic) of the university.

Das also said that the consolidated review results would give the data to the university to look into the evaluation pattern of the examiners.

Around 17,000 students from different streams of the university had sought the review of their answer scripts. The results of about 12,000 students from Arts and Science stream will be declared in March.
