Kolkata, June 16 The Calcutta Medical College and Hospital was forced to reschedule a few surgeries on Monday, owing to a power cut between 7:30 am to 11 am. With the hospital plunged into darkness for more than three hours, the patients had a harrowing time.

According to the officials, a number of surgeries, including three cardio-thoracic ones to be held at the David Hare building, had to be rescheduled. The emergency surgeries were also delayed. The hospital authorities witnessed a lot of difficulty in issuing tickets to patients visiting the Out Patients’ Department.

Normalcy returned after a fault in the supply lines was repaired leading to its restoration.

The two main junctions where the CESC line gets connected with the hospital’s supply line are in a bad shape, owing to the lack of maintenance which causes a disruption in the hospital’s electricity supply, said officials.

The hospital officials also pointed out that they had a meeting with the Public Works Department (electrical) regarding this matter. It has been decided that the junctions, which were creating problems, will be renovated on June 22.
