According to a report published in the institution's student newspaper Varsity, a large number of "cash-strapped" students are selling their bodies to make quick bucks.
"Undergraduate life is expensive these days, especially for those who enjoy the odd luxury. But why are 350 Cantabridgians working as escorts?" the report said.
It also said that a "plethora" of undergraduates were also raising money by selling essays.
Varsity claimed it spoke to one such student who "admitted" spending her first year as an undergraduate working as a 50-pounds-an-hour call girl.
"I did have a day job at the same time, but it just wasn't paying enough. I met other students who did it too.
Once you've done it, it is tempting. If you need quick, easy money, it's there," she told the weekly.
She added, "I would sleep with between one and seven clients a night."
The newspaper also interviewed another undergraduate student, without revealing her name, who said she earned "up to 100 pounds per dance" while working as a stripper.
"On an average night, I would be working from 10.30 pm. First you have to wear a long dress that does not show too much flesh, then at midnight you change into something skimpier, usually a short dress," she was quoted as saying.
However, university teachers are worried.
"I was very concerned to read the report. Senior tutors would want to do everything they could to give support to students well before any found themselves in such a situation," Dr Rob Wallach, the Secretary of the University's Senior Tutors' Committee, told a British daily.

The British still believe in prudence and propriety. But look at what their society is driving people into. Their values are in a hypocritical mess; they breed unscrupulous celebrities and destroy the lives of ordinary people. God save the Queen, her son and grandsons.
So cambridge does not even impart the basic ethical values in the student....they would seel their bodies to have their luxuries..when they would hold a responsible position they would expect their subordinate to do the same...Needless to say cambridge products will be bullshits.

The message is there is no morality in the educated youth. Such students(?) should be punished by arresting them immediately. What british govt is doing in this case?
It is realy a worrying news. The same should not be replicated in India since we have a very rich culture which cannot be challenged by any culture in the world
Now that is the oldest profession on the planet as well as one of the most lucrative ones. It is about time to legalize prostitution so that willing people can involve in these kinds of activities in a legal way. Whatever rules or laws are created against prostitution, drugs, alcohol etc., none of them are going to work. It will only help the cops in getting bribes or get some free sex for them.
Whatever be the reason, does students need to stoop to such levels? Now the under-graduate degree is costly and for easy money they are resorting de-basing activities. What is the guarantee that these very students don't resort again to such activities if they are not in a position to meet there fancy lifestyles? Is this what consumerism all about?
