Kolkata, May 16: Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen said on Friday that she would prefer to stay in Kolkata or Delhi, a day after she was quoted as saying that she wished to shift to Tripura if she was not allowed to stay in Kolkata.

"Kolkata is where I had set up my home. Can't I be allowed by the West Bengal government to return to my city?" Taslima asked in an e-mail from Sweden.

Responding to a question about her reported wish to stay in Tripura, Taslima said her comments were quoted out of context.

"One of my friends called up from Agartala and said if I could not stay in Kolkata then I could consider Tripura where the majority of people were Bengali. All I said was that I could consider it," the writer said.

"I have no home in Europe. I stay with friends. Bangladesh has turned its back on me. Where I can turn to?" she asked.

She said in case it was not possible to return to Kolkata, she would prefer to stay in Delhi, though on Thursday she had been quoted as saying that this (staying in Delhi) was 'impossible'.

On further extension of her Indian visa which would expire in August, Taslima said she had written to the authorities and was hopeful.

She would visit France this month end to personally receive the Simone de Beauvoir award which was conferred on her in January.

Articles she had written while she was staying in Delhi for three and half months before leaving India on March 19 would also be published in book form in French then, she said.

Taslima, who had suffered from cardiac and eye ailments while staying in a safe house in Delhi after she was hounded out of Kolkata on November 22 2007, said she has recovered fully.

Shame on Inida by Satish Haldankar on 18 May 2008

We take pride calling ourselves a civilised and a democratic country. Thats about it. We do not practice what we believe in. The decision makers are more interested in pacifying the fundamentalists and the terrorists. And that is shameful. They have also told HH Dalai Lama to behave, as the Chinese and their agents the Indian Communists would get very upset.

COMMIES HOUND TASLIMA by DESI on 17 May 2008

Taslima has been hounded by westbengal commies and congressupa because they welcome illegal bangla terrorists and sympathisers for votes.

AN AGGRAVATING NUISANCE by S.Rameswaran on 16 May 2008

There are mysterious forces at work to establish greater Bangladesh as a prelude to Islamize the entire country and Taslima is an active dedicated member of that mystifying covert groups. Therefore Taslima doesn’t belong here. She should go back to where she belongs to.

Taslima should ask the question to Al Quida and Islamic terrorists by Jay on 16 May 2008

Taslima should ask the question to Al Quida and Islamic terrorists. Indian political leadership obeys their order more than to work for the betterment of the country and its people. Islamic fanatics, politics of appeasement and vote bank mainly by UPA govt and many so-called “secular” state govt (e.g communist Govt in West Bengal) will not allow Taslima to stay in India with safety and security. I feel proud as an Indian that a bold and honest person like Taslima wants to live in my country.

Taslima Nasreen- by Dr.R.N.Tripathi on 16 May 2008

Dear Editor,After reading this article and looking back at previous articles before Ms.Taslima Nasreen left India protesting and scolding the system of the country and the leaders of the country,I think she should not be allowed toseek sanctuary in India. If India and it's people have got any self respect and honour they should refuse permission. After all she is seeking asylum and at the same time abusing the hospitality of the people of India and the Nation.

We should be proud about Taslima and her desire to live in India by Jay on 16 May 2008

India is going towards self-destruction by religious appeasement for people like you. I am proud that a bold, honst women like Taslima is seeking asylum and citizenship in my country; at the same time I am shamed that (so-called "educated" without any education) people like you live in my country.

Mother land. by ksb on 16 May 2008

The right always is to stay and live ,work and prosper in the land you are born and die there only.Donot demands things in the foreign lands and create trouble to the natives.

Taslima by Venkat on 16 May 2008

Hey ksbWhat is your problem man!!Once a visa is granted she can go to any place in India. We should let the poor woman go where she likes. The Islamo facists should be put in their place

Taslima by Raja on 16 May 2008

Taslima you are a brave women. A strong women, a gutsy women. My heart goes out to you. Unfortunately cowardice and appeasement defines India's leadership (sic). So don't hold your breath, these sisy's will not come through. BJP, Congress, Commies - they are all cut from the same cloth! Bunch of cowards.

terrorist by kapoor5 on 16 May 2008

India can not be breeding ground for every terrorist and unwanted citizen of the world. Is it not the same person who was saying India is worst before going to France?

To Kapoor by Dr.Debatosh Majumdar on 16 May 2008

Dear Kapoor5,Taslima is under mental stress caused by the radical islamists, and pseudo secularist politicians in India, and abroad. We have to ignore her silly comments, and look at the broader perspective. People should have the right to practice the freedom of speech. Everyone has the right to express his or her opinion. So Taslima must be allowed to stay in India. If the people of India do not stand up against the radical religious forces, and corrupt pseudo politicians then the secular India will not exist in future. What secularism we are boasting. Already India is under threat from radical forces. We have to act. Its already late. Please co-operate.Kind regards,Dr. Debatosh Majumdar

silly comment by kapoor5 on 16 May 2008

It is a silly comment that since India is secular, every unwanted person has a place in India. We can not spoil the relationship with every neighbour, not talking about Jaipur incident at this time where people like Talisma are invoved. Either you should also leave the country along with Taslima or join BSF as there are 24,000 unfilled positions there. Empty ideas do not bring back people who are getting killed by these extremists. Lay your life if you are so secular.

Taslimajii. Unfortunately you can not stay in Kolkatta. People of Kolkatta in general and Commies in particular do not have courage to stand up to Islamic terrorism.
