Ludhiana, January 29 Police finally registered an FIR against unknown employees of the Municipal Corporation for attempting to murder a roadside vendor. Ajit Kumar died of heart attack in Janakpuri on Monday evening after an MC team removed his stall from the road as part of an anti-encroachment drive. Till yesterday, the MC team had been claiming that it was not even aware of the incident.

MC authorities have now constituted a six-member committee to independently look into the case. Senior Deputy Mayor Parveen Bansal, former councillor Pran Bhatia, BJP councillor Gurdeep Neetu and Zonal Commissioner Ashok Bajaj met Kumar’s family on Tuesday. Bhatia was representing Deputy Speaker Satpal Gosian, who is the area MLA. Gosian was not in town on Tuesday.

Kumar’s family has been promised a job in the Municipal Corporation and has been assured that Punjab Government will be requested to help the family out financially. Earlier in the morning, market association members staged a silent protest at the market main chowk to condole Kumar’s death. After certain politicians and the zonal commissioner met the shopkeepers, the latter went back to work.

Meanwhile the postmortem examination of Kumar was done on Tuesday at the Civil Hospital.
