New Delhi The CBI has finished its investigations in the cash-at-judge’s-door scandal that hit the Punjab and High Court last year, and submitted a report to the Government and the Supreme Court today.

The scandal broke on August 13, 2008, when Rs 15 lakh was delivered at the residence of a judge of the High Court, Justice Nirmaljit Singh Kaur. It was later alleged that the money, brought by a clerk of a senior Haryana law officer, was actually meant for another judge of the High Court, Justice Nirmal Yadav, and delivered to the wrong house. A fortnight later, the CBI took over the case on the request of the Chandigarh administration.

Announcing that the investigations in the case were complete, CBI spokesperson Harsh Behl said the report had been submitted to the Government and Supreme Court for further action.

Justice Nirmal Yadav has been on leave since her name figured in the scam. Contacted by The Indian Express today, she said she had not received the CBI report so far nor been been informed about its contents. “I will decide my next course of action only after I am informed about the same,” she said.

Denying that she had done anything wrong, Justice Yadav added that she would give her reply to the Chief Justice of India’s show-cause notice to her on the basis of an in-house panel report in a few days.

Earlier, in a defiant letter to CJI K G Balakrishnan, she had pointed fingers at a Supreme Court judge and said attempts were being made to protect the real culprit.

According to her, she was being made a scapegoat because her first name was similar to the judge to whose house the cash was delivered. The entire inquiry had been deflected in one direction to protect Justice Kaur at the behest of a Supreme Court Judge, Justice Yadav claimed.

Mis-justice System by Jas on 24 Jan 2009

Taliban style justice seems very appropriate for the judges involved. God , just like every Indian, knows -none of these judges are innocent. They are not guily of taking these obscene amount of bribes only but also punishing the innocent and letting the guilty get away with crime. Anything less than public flogging leading to ultimate punisment for crime, would be miscarriage of justice. While doing so beaurocrats of investigating agencies and few of their political masters should be thrown in the ring too. Thanks is due to talibans for giving this world an efficient and effective justice system when the so called civilized justice system fails the society.

HONESTY OF POLICE AND JUDGES by B SGANESH, BANGALORE on 24 Jan 2009

This is a fit case for investigation as corruption by judges means delivering wromg judgement and protecting the accused at the cost of the honest which is an injustice. There is keen need for judges police officers to be highly honest as they are expected to protect the justice to the honest and should not involve in corruption. Unfortunately in our country it has been a practice to protect the corrrupt and punish the honest. This is why political parties and politicians grow at an alarming rate and make poor poorer and increase cost of living also. Unless a rule is made that tainted persons can not be given tickets and list of candidates are vetted by a THIRD PARTY like judiciary after going through various records country will continue to have criminals, terrorists and traitors in politics.B S Ganesh, ganshar@dataone.in 70/9 Basappa Layout, Hanumanthnagar, BANGALORE 560 019

SHAMEFUL JUSTICE by s thulasidharan on 24 Jan 2009

How the ordinary citizens can expect a fair trial and justice when the judges themselves are corrupt. Shame on our legal system !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
