kolkata, April 27 Students and researchers from various technical universities in the state will soon have incubators where they can work on their ideas and come up with industrially viable products in the market.

The Additional Secretary Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Government of India, Jowhar Sircar said that he has discussed the matter with the Vice-Chancellors of Jadavpur University(JU), Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU) and West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT).

Sircar said that the government of India is planning to set up 100 such incubators across the country with a budget of about Rs 80 crore. The guidelines of the project will be announced shortly.

“We will ask the universities to share with us ten good ideas of teachers, students, ex-students and researchers which are worth incubation,” said Sircar.

He said that the ministry wants the universities to come up with certain commitments.

They can chip in with some funds, and should allow students and faculty to use their infrastructure and laboratories. If the research facility is not available at the institute, they can tie up with other institutes to help the entrepreneurs working on an idea .

Vice-Chancellor of WBUT, Ashok Ranjan Thakur has described the initiative to be fruitful for both industry and the university.

The secretary has spoken to me in this regard and told that government will put a money of Rs 5- 10 lakh for each incubator, he said.
