Centre to fund housing for urban poor in state

Kolkata, February 27 The Centre has sanctioned Rs 200 crore to construct housing for the urban poor in West Bengal.

This was announced by the state Urban Development Minister Asok Bhattacharya at the Real Estate Conclave organised by the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI), Bengal, in the city today.

“The total cost of the project that will involve the construction of 10,000 dwelling units will be Rs 400 crore, of which the state government will fund Rs 200 crore and the remaining will be given by the Centre,” said Bhattacharya.

These new residential units wil be coming up at Kalyani, Barrackpore, Pujali and Asansol.

Bhattacharya said that in the approach paper to the 11th Five Year Plan envisaged setting up of 2 lakh new housing units.

Regarding the problem of congestion at Prince Anwar Shah Road owing to the South City Mall, CEO of Kolkata Metropolitan Development Auhtority (KMDA), P R Baviskar, said that the authorities were looking at a few options to reduce the congestion in the area, including the construction of a flyover and alternate roads.

Baviskar said that the scheme to decongest the area will cost around Rs 150-200 crore and the KMDA was hoping that the promoters of South City will bear 50 per cent of the cost.

    Reddit allows users to submit news articles and other online content to the site. Users also give articles a thumbs-up or thumbs-down. Reddit then uses those votes to build a user profile and to find articles to recommend to you. Users can also submit comments on items posted to the site.
