Dubai, October 15: The International Cricket Council (ICC) re-scheduled the postponed Champions Trophy to September 2009 and will take a final call on the host city after India's tour to Pakistan early next year.

On the second and final day of a Board meeting here, the ICC decided to slot the eight-team event, which was postponed owing to the security apprehensions in Pakistan, from September 24 to October 5.

The Board has decided that the tournament will be played out in just one city instead of being spread out in several venues.

"It was further agreed that because the event was reduced in duration (12 days including a reserve day for the final instead of the 17 days set aside in 2008) it would be played in one city."

"The ICC Board will make a final decision on the location of the event following India's tour to Pakistan in the first part of 2009 so that it can provide certainty to teams, broadcasters, commercial partners and other stakeholders. The ICC decision comes after CEO Haroon Lorgat presented a report on the event's organisation to the Board. The Board received a presentation on the subject in the wake of work carried out by the Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat and ICC management, including input from ICC Full Members.

The full schedule and the location for the matches will be announced in due course.

"We are delighted to have slotted the ICC Champions Trophy into the FTP in 2009 thus maintaining the primacy of ICC events, and we now look forward to staging an outstanding, memorable event next September/October," ICC President David Morgan said.

"I'm hugely encouraged by the spirit of togetherness and teamwork shown by our Members in ensuring we have found a place for the ICC Champions Trophy in next year's calendar," added ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat.

The ICC was forced to postpone the event after teams like Australia, South Africa and England expressed their apprehension over touring Pakistan in the wake of a series of blasts there. The tournament was originally scheduled from September 12 this year.
