Mohali Fiza and her husband Chand Mohammed, whom she accused of "rape, hurting religious sentiments, cheating, defamation and criminal intimidation", have been asked to appear before police on Friday.

Fiza, alias Anuradha Bali, had alleged in her criminal complaint to the Punjab Police on Monday that Chander Mohan, son of former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal, had committed fraud as he had converted to Islam only to have physical relations with her.

Following her allegations, SSP Jatinder Singh Aulakh assigned City SP Varinder Pal Singh, to probe the matter and submit a fact-finding report.

"Both of them have been asked to appear before me in my office. After recording their statements and going through the supportive documents and examining their witnesses, if any, I will submit my report to the SSP for further necessary action," SP Singh said on Tuesday.

In December, 2008, Mohan, then Haryana Deputy Chief Minister and already married created a sensation when he and Bali, a former Haryana Assistant Advocate General, converted to Islam and announced their wedlock.

But the love marriage soon turned sour when Chand left Fiza's residence on January 28, 2009 following which she tried to commit to suicide which she later denied.

A Poetic Justice by R.Ramachandran on 18 Feb 2009

Sir, Fiza, being a lawyer herself should know that by converting to another religion one cannot escape the provisions of Hindu Marriage Act. If Chand had not been arraigned under HMA it is mainly because his first wife had not preferred any complaint under the HMA. As regards Fiza, she cannot complain that she is aware that she married Chand under muslim law where polygamy is permissible. Thus, to allege "rape, hurting religious sentiments, cheating, defamation and criminal intimidation" , or that Chand had converted to Islam only to have physical relations with her etc. is laughable. In fact she boasted on the TV channels that it is because of their love that they came together and she even challenged that if any case is brought she will meet the challenge. Now it is her turn to weep. A real poetic justice.
