Kolkata, March 26: West Bengal Sports Minister Subhas Chakraborty on Wednesday described the charges against former BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya as ‘baseless and untrue’ and alleged that he was being harassed ‘unnecessarily’.

“Not a single charge against Dalmiya is acceptable and it is not for the first time that he has been subjected to harassment,” Chakraborty, who openly supported Dalmiya’s candidature for the CAB President’s post against the Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee’s nominee Prasun Mukherjee (then city police Chief) in 2006, told reporters.

The former Cricket Board President was on Wednesday arrested in Mumbai and immediately released on bail of Rs 25,000 by the police on charges of misappropriation of over Rs 2.90 crore of the BCCI fund during his tenure.

Asked if the state government would allow the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) to hold matches at the Eden Garden, Chakraborty said, ‘‘If they want, we will give them.

We are not loyal servants of the BCCI’’.
